Cricketics
we missed him in world cup 2007 game against bangaldesh. he would have scored a century and we would have been through to next round. but he was not picked by selectors Link to comment
fineleg
That's mainly because of the fact that GG had to work his ars3 off to get into the playing XI. GG was ignored by selectors on consistent basis and this probably motivated GG to work harder in domestic season. Result of the ignorance was a honest hard working player came out after sweating in domestic circuit. Ignorance is/was a bliss indeed (in GG's case). Will new players 19-23 year olds "sweat it out" or go IPL-cash rich non-sweat option? See, this is where having to do the hard grind helps 'yengsters' to shape up. Link to comment
punjabi_khota
What I like most about GG is the complete lack of interest in media spot light. He does not give too many interviews/statements' date=' no affairs with bolly chicks, no page 3 parties, no shows with SRK, no scandals, no BS. He simply disappears between tournaments.[/quote'] Hahah..give him some time..Delhi ka launda hai...sabh kuch karega  Link to comment

Heh, they are trying to make it a twice -a-year thing...Its slowly going to take over the youngsters' imagination. Lets see where all you can go from getting good at T-20: 1). IPL..twice year from next year..probably 2). Champions Trophy..once in 2 years.. 3). T-20 world cup..once in 2 years 4). Other one-on-one T-20 games...maybe 5 games per year 5). ICL .......................... Now lets see where you can get by getting good at Test cricket 1). 7 tests per year. Thats it. :yay::yay::yay: Link to comment
Cricketics
twice a year won't happen untill 2011 anyway. and btw i heard sharad pawar wasn't interested in it. so let's forget it for now. Link to comment

See, this is where having to do the hard grind helps 'yengsters' to shape up. Players' are entitled to their own views. Who says IPL experience will guarantee them easy cash ? The way Mallya freaked out after BRC's performance, he surely is out there to drop some players after their dismal performance. Franchises are out there to make money (no doubt about it!) so they will do anything to ensure that their team is not full of bench warmers. Pressure will surely be there on our youngsters to perform. More importantly their failures/successes will be watched by billions. IPL is India's own 20-20 domestic arena where our players can rub shoulders with great players and learn a few tricks. So what if our players will make an extra buck or two while being under the pressure to perform ? If only you could remove the 'IPL hatred blindfold' that you are putting on, you could have noticed this too. Link to comment
Ram
That is exactly the way he used to play when he first arrived on the scene. He played some real whirlwind innings but never produced anything substantial. It's amazing how much he has changed in the last couple of months; it's like he is a completely different player now. He is now averaging 39.67. Not just the last couple of months, his transformation began in the T20 world cup. What will happen to the HUGELY successful Gambhir-Sehwag combo, when Sachin returns? Will Sachin be persuaded to play at no.3? Link to comment
The Outsider
What will happen to the HUGELY successful Gambhir-Sehwag combo, when Sachin returns? Will Sachin be persuaded to play at no.3? It'll be stupid to play the best opener in ODIs ever at any other position. Gambhir did very well at number 3 in Australia and there is no reason why he can't play at number 3. Link to comment
Cricketics
Gambhir should be brought down to no. 3 when Tendulkar returns. Gambhir has shown that he can adjust it easily. i mean even tendulkar can adjust, but why? being the best opener ever, tendulkar deserves to open along side sehwag. and gambhir should be brought on no. 3 anywayz, this would happen in few series only, as i am noticing that tendulkar would be skipping lot of odi series for good Link to comment
rahulrulezz
cricketics I like you attitude bro.. from Gambhir early days before he was dropped, I have always supported him...so did I always supported Sehwag...i have been a lurker but i have always seen u supporting Sehwag and Gambhir all the time... but there are those testwanna be people around who want players who like to play in singles and cry over those oldies ala Ganguly, Laxman, Dravid to be back in ODI or 20-20...tell me what did they achieve for us in last 15 years in ODI arena... they never won us a single big tournament.... we need agressive player and from Oldies only Sachin fits in... Chandan
So the highest average against any decent team bar SL is just 31? Is that so much to rejoice about? And what is the average if you remove all the minnow nations but keep SL? Link to comment

And what is the average if you remove all the minnow nations but keep SL? well u shud also realize that he was inconsistent before the T20 WC.. only after the T20 worldcup he started being very consistent.. and if u look at the matches he played after T20WC, u could see a change in his average.. and He played only against pak,Aus,Bang during that time.... so obviously his stats might look bad against other countries...
