All rounders

Which all rounder from the past you would love to be part of our current team?

Vinoo Mankad

Kapil (an obvious pick)

Roger Binny ( could open)

Madanlal

Manoj Prabakar ( could open bowling and batting)

Irfan pathan

You can add if I miss anyone

Kapil is a no-brainer. We need a pace all-rounder as we have enough spin based all-rounders.

My top 3 picks would be:

1. Kapil Dev - automatic selection anywhere)

2. Irfan Pathan - 2003-07 vintage who could bowl in mid to high 130s and swing the ball

3. Mohinder Amarnath - a top order genuine batter who can bowl a few in SENA conditions with his military medium bowling

Madan Lal and Binny were mostly bowlers who could bat a bit. Prabhakar could be used as a makeshift opener as lower down the order his batting utility disappeared.

Prabakars  only issue is ball tampering which he learnt from padosis. Irfan at his best in swinging conditions is a genuine threat. He is probably one of the technically sound all rounder we ever had.

That should be a plus. He did what was happening around him. I heard stories that Prabhakar became so good at preparing & swinging the ball in Pak that they had to abandon a couple of matches coz Prabhakar ran through their batting lineup.

His banana inswinger was eerily similar to Imran's inswinger. Going wide of the crease and angling it in was strikingly similar to Imrans

Kapil. Having a pace bowling allrounder during the Kohli years would have made India invincible even in SENA.

Our brain dead team management never cared about team structure hence we grossly under achieved through 2010s.  We missed one Pandya in 2023 final. We lost the balance. It had a cascading effect. 2024 world T20 unit was not exactly a great unit. We had misfits like Rishabh Pant, Jadeja. But we had depth. It helped.

2024 world t20 structure was correct even if personnel wasn't.

Yes. We just had the team sructure. If you look at Australian unit in 2003. They had Mcgrath and Lee. That's it.  Support bowlers were Brad Hogg, Lehmann, Symonds, Andy Bichel. Not exactly celebrated back up option.  Yet they won because they had bowlers who could bat, batsmen who could bowl.

Gillespie too though. But point is correct.

More importantly, their batsmen could bat very fast - the key for any World Cup winning team and most Australian sides.

Symonds in particular was a brilliant addition.

Likes of Lee can tonk the ball, averaged more than Bhajji with bat and similar to Agarkar (whom too we called allrounder). Lee had this uncanny ability of hitting big sixes during crucial moments. Even Brad Hogg was no mug with bat.
Bichel and Bevan saved the day against NZ where a rampaging Bond destroyed the Australian formidable batting.

Bichel and Bevan also saved them against England in that World Cup.
