rollingstoned Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Trouble for BCB as Bangladesh sports ministry orders fresh investigation into T20 World Cup snub Newly-appointed Bangladesh sports minister Aminul Haque isn't willing to take Bangladesh's snub from the T20 World Cup lightly. Image credit: X/AP It’s been more than a week since the 10th edition of the ICC T20 World Cup concluded with India making history by becoming the first team ever to win back-to-back titles as well as lift the trophy on home soil. And it’s been nearly two months since Bangladesh were shown the door by the International Cricket Council for refusing to travel to India. Scotland were granted a last-minute entry as their replacement and the Bangla Tigers, who were set to be led by wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das, had no choice but to watch the tournament on television screens or other devices back home. The newly-elected Bangladeshi government led by Tarique Rahman , meanwhile, isn’t too keen on putting the controversial absence from the high-profile tournament behind just yet. According to Cricbuzz, the country’s sports ministry is set to launch a fresh probe into the matter. The development comes a day after the Aminul Islam-led Bangladesh Cricket Board demanded the ministry shut investigation into the matter. State minister for youth and sports Aminul Haque, additionally, has confirmed that the fresh inquiry committee will be tasked with examining whether Bangladesh’s absence from the World Cup was a case of diplomatic failure or not, with focus on the root cause behind the snub. The development comes as a major blow to the higher-ups at the BCB, whose president Aminul Islam Bulbul had refused to send the senior men’s team to India for the tournament, reportedly at the behest of the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government. Sports ministry to also investigate irregularities in previous BCB election Sports Minister Haque, meanwhile, had stated last month that the newly-formed government was looking to mend ties with India after the damage caused by the Yunus-led administration. The former Bangladesh footballer further revealed that the formation of the new investigation committee was the result of complaints from various stakeholders regarding irregularities in the previous board election. “At this point, I would like to mention that during the previous government’s tenure, there was direct interference in the cricket board elections from the government’s side - something you are all aware of. I myself spoke about this several times back then. “But after we assumed responsibility, various complaints came in from stakeholders involved in cricket - from clubs and from district levels. Taking these into consideration, we formed an inquiry committee, and I am currently awaiting its report,” Haque was quoted by the report as saying.

Ultimate_Game Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Why bother with the investigation when everyone knows the truth? Here's the timeline of the key events... 1. Mustafizur was dropped from IPL after initially being picked. An immature decision by IPL I must say as they should've either not picked him or if they had picked him, let him be part of the team but not play him. 2. BCB threw a hissy fit and reacted even more poorly than IPL & BCCI, which was an achievement in itself! BCB head Aminul decided not to play their WT20 matches in India. This was a pathetic decision as BCB simply doesn't have the power & influence they thought they do. Even if it had been a bilateral series this would've been idiotic trying to antagonize BCCI and India in cricket, but they did it for an ICC event! 3. As expected everybody laughed and asked BCB to reconsider. 4. PCB and Naqvi took this opportunity to pump BCB further and made a show of "friendship". Their agenda was simply to bother India and BCCI as much as possible and they used BCB as the bait aur Naqvi ne Aminul ko channe ke jhaad pe chada diya. PCB came up with this India match "boycott" thinking it would be "win-win" for them as they either boycott the match and don't lose to India as usual or by some miracle get political points by this illusion of supporting BCB if BCB plays their matches in SL. 5. Aminul and BCB thought they had the backing of PCB and other boards (I'm sure PCB would've said even SLCB, WICB, ECB etc. would side with them) and overplayed their hand. 6. BCCI and ICC had enough of this drama and kicked B'desh out of the WT20 and replaced them with Scotland. 7. PCB understood they would be next if they don't back down from the boycott decision and did so and all of the "solidarity with B'desh" went out of the window. End result: BCB and B'desh found out that PCB is worse than an enemy and played them. They are more p*ssed off at PCB than BCCI or ICC. For India it's the best possible result as we get BCB back into the fold, isolate PCB, and also had the satisfaction of hammering Pak in WT20 and humiliate Naqvi as he ran away from the stadium mid-match during the thrashing B'desh will kick out the useless Aminul and get a new BCB head, will try to mend their relationship with India (so expect a new B'desh series), and will make sure they don't align with PCB. bouncers, bsriharsha, Stan AF and 2 others 4 1

Bangladesh confirm Ireland tour deferral, India series prompts move. Bangladesh's upcoming tour of Ireland, scheduled for September 2026, has been postponed as they are eyeing to host India in that window, a Bangladesh Cricket Board official confirmed to Cricbuzz. Cricbuzz understands that Cricket Ireland, who recently published their year-long schedule, informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board that they would be unable to accommodate a rescheduling within 2026. This came after the BCB conveyed that they would not be able to travel in September, as they are planning to host India during that period. The two boards agreed to defer the series as both parties were unable to make it work in that September window. India, who were originally scheduled to tour Bangladesh in 2025 before the series was postponed, are currently set to arrive on August 28 for three ODIs and three T20Is. As per a BCB press release, the ODIs are scheduled for September 1, 3 and 6, while the T20Is will be played on September 9, 12 and 13. "When the India series was moved from last year to this September, we asked them (Cricket Ireland) if they could accommodate us at another time in 2026, but they said they were unable to do so. So the tour has been postponed," a BCB official told Cricbuzz on Saturday. "They also had some other issues, so we decided to work together to find a new window for the Ireland tour, hopefully sometime next year (2027)," he added. Bangladesh have moved up to ninth in the International Cricket Council ODI team rankings following their recent 2-1 series win at home against Pakistan, and now have 79 rating points, two more than West Indies in tenth. To secure direct qualification for the 2027 World Cup, to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, Bangladesh need to finish among the top eight teams in the rankings by March 31, 2027. Teams outside that bracket will have to go through a qualifying tournament. With the Ireland tour postponed, Bangladesh are expected to host New Zealand, Australia and India, and travel to South Africa and Zimbabwe before the qualification deadline. However, if the India tour in September is also postponed (it's subject to clearance from the Government of India amid recent diplomatic tensions), Bangladesh could end up with very few ODIs to work with before the direct qualification cut-off. bsriharsha Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Indian government will give the approval for the tour. Bangla politicians seem to be better now. Hopefully, they prosecute Yunus for being a western stooge and an A class idiot.
Tillu Posted March 23 Posted March 23 'Bangladesh cricketers won't play PSL if there are security concerns' Bangladesh state minister for youth and sports, Aminul Haque, said on Sunday that Bangladesh cricketers will not take part in the upcoming Pakistan Super League if there is a security concern. During a short chat with Cricbuzz, Aminul also insisted that he will find out why the Indian Premier League, the world's biggest franchise-based T20 tournament, is banned from being broadcast in Bangladesh and will take a decision after understanding the complete situation. Earlier, Cricbuzz revealed that the Bangladesh Cricket Board will seek government permission regarding allowing their players to take part in the PSL due to the regional tension prevailing in the subcontinent. On Sunday, PCB announced that PSL 2026 will now be restricted to Lahore and Karachi, with matches to be played behind closed doors, as organisers scale back plans in response to the ongoing West Asia conflict. When Aminul was notified about the latest development regarding the PSL, which is already reeling from a spate of player pullouts and travel advisories issued by several countries, the state minister insisted that they are not ready to send their cricketers if there is a security concern, while adding that they are waiting for official communication from the BCB regarding the PSL. "Definitely our cricketers are not going if there is a security concern (in PSL)," Aminul told this website on Sunday. "First BCB has to inform us about it (security concern) and afterwards we will take an official decision based upon our observation (following scrutiny from national agencies)," he said. "If the BCB ensures us that there is no problem if our cricketers go there, in that case we don't have any problem. They (BCB) have to ensure what the players want because we don't want to discourage sports and we want everyone to play from their respective places," he added. "The BCB should consult us about security purposes and everything, and if they can ensure that (everything is fine), in that case we can proceed," he said, suggesting that the BCB should also take a close look at the status of the tournament and update the government accordingly. Six players - Mustafizur Rahman, Parvez Hossain Emon (Lahore Qalandars), Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana, Tanzid Hasan Tamim (Peshawar Zalmi), and Rishad Hossain (Peshawar Zalmi) - had earlier been granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) by the BCB after being picked by franchises for the tournament, scheduled from March 26 to May 3. Aminul added that following the Eid vacation, he will sit with the respective authorities to understand why the IPL is banned in Bangladesh and will take a decision in this regard, as he is not ready to mix sports with politics. Earlier, the Professor Yunus-led government, which eventually made Bangladesh cricket pay heavily as they did not take part in the T20 World Cup citing security concerns over playing in India, banned the IPL from being telecast in Bangladesh. "We have not thought about it as yet (broadcasting IPL in Bangladesh). After the vacation (Eid) ends, we will have to discuss it with the cricket board and try to figure out the actual picture (regarding banning IPL), and after knowing everything, we will take a decision," he said. "We want to develop a friendly relationship (with India), and there shouldn't be any other issue. Sports shouldn't be politicised. We have to know why it (IPL) was closed (broadcasting in Bangladesh), and later we can make a decision," he added. © Cricbuzz
