"Never Seen Anything Like This": Marnus Labuschagne Shames PSL Over 'Pink Ball' Drama

The PSL 2026 opening match saw controversy as Hyderabad Kingsmen's white ball turned pink due to colour transfer from their jersey, a first-time issue noted by Marnus Labuschagne.

Just the first game of the season, and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 already has its first controversy. The clash between Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore unexpectedly turned into a "pink-ball contest," leaving fans stunned. Australia all-rounder Marnus Labuschagne, representing Hyderabad Kingsmen, even lodged a complaint with the umpire after noticing that colour from his team's jersey was rubbing off onto the white ball, gradually turning it pink and later red.

It is common for cricketers to rub the ball on their clothing to maintain shine on one side. However, Labuschagne admitted he had never experienced colour transfer from clothing onto the ball in his professional career. As Lahore Qalandars sealed victory, the Hyderabad Kingsmen shared a cheeky post on X (formerly Twitter), congratulating their opponents for winning the first "pink-ball game" of the PSL.

"I did say to the umpires after the second over, 'What's going on? The ball is red.' It must be from the clothes or something like that. I haven't seen anything like this before," Labuschagne told reporters at the post-match press conference.

The Australian star expressed hope that the franchise owners would resolve the issue quickly.

"I've seen occasions where something on a bat comes onto the ball, or when it hits the pad and takes a bit of paint off. But I've never seen this happen with clothing. I'm sure they'll sort it out in the next few games," he added. The incident has caused major embarrassment for the PSL, with fans questioning how franchise owners could allow such poor-quality kits to be used in a professional tournament.

Pinkball T20,it's called innovation

Pakistan has always been known for bringing innovation in the game, the introduction of bottle caps, spitting on the ball to make one side heavy, tweaking arms to bowl dusra, doing ringa ringa roses on the pitch to create roughs for spinners, pausing before delivery, bowling huge no balls for oppositions, taking a bat and getting into the crowd, test the credibility of bus manufacturers who claim full proof buses with AK 47's and grenades.

This is nothing by their standards.

This is a total train wreck for PCB. No crowd. Fake noise  Pink ball. Washed up players, horrible pitch. Horrible commentary. Whichever idiot decided it was a great idea to host in the same IPL window must be applauded. Would have missed the entertainment

They would have been much better off canceling this season. This fiasco has highlighted how poor the league is and lack of professionalism. At this time it's no different than BPL or SLPL. This YT video was spot on in its analysis...

I always watch his videos first after every PCB fiasco. This is what happens when one of the least professional set up in cricketing history tries to run a league that demands high professionalism.

Never seen this happen. Have seen paint from stumps, ad boards, even paint of crease markings, dirt or grass causing the coloration on the ball but never the kit

Nothing much wrong in his assessment of the bowling line-up there are 4 bowler who are main-stay of their t20i playing 11.

Rauf and Shaheen are main-stay of their t20i playing 11.

Fizz can make it to many teams playing 11 specially sc or sc like conditions

Sikandar-- He will be force multiplier to any side he is in<-- Pure wkt taker and a proper batter, if Parag can emulate what raza does Ind will be far stronger t20 side and then wont need sundar or even rinku.

At their vey best they can be considered as international class. How can a bowling attack having absolutely tatti bowlers like Shaheen and Rauf be better than international attacks.

It would be better than most intnl but not the best, even best bowlers go for run we saw varun being hit for runs match after match.

Shaheen and Rauf has 125+ intnk wkts with eco below 8.50 for both, which is v,good yes quality of opp. can be ques. But with such bowling line-up 4 out of 5 bowlers being the intnl bowlers who are main-stay of their respective intnl sides its a v.good bowling line-up with everything covered -- LAF, Mystery spinner, High pace and bowler with t20i variation then just need to add 1 high potential bowler.

you can bowl-out shaheen in pp so he does not have to bowl in the last few over and can use raza and fizz then wont need rauf to bowl in middle order , he can be used in last few overs.
