His choking genes came through :giggle:

There's one thing you can rely on - SA players losing their heads under pressure. Be it Miller, Klassen or anyone else, when there's pressure they implode mentally.

Another thing. KL Rahul performed and his team lost another close one. This has been a consistent theme with KL Rahul in IPL. Whenever he performed his team fell agonizingly close and often snatched defeat from a winning position just like today. This combination of KL Rahul and David Miller is enough to doom DC.

Over confidence in own abilities. There is a fine line between having confidence and being over confident. The way he was hitting sixes at will, he thought that he could finish off the game in a flash and become a folk hero. Fate has other ideas.

Dhoni used to do that too when he was past his prime, famously or if I should say infamously refusing single to a proper batsman Rayudu in believing that he can finish the game with a six. He did such things routinely and got egg on his face. Today, it was Miller's turn.

Ya.. But MSD would deny singles when the asking rate is high not when 1 run for tie. He would have taken it. Most would take.

Dhoni would never refuse a single to tie the game. Dhoni was anything but stupid. He was extremely methodical and went by percentages. He used to refuse singles when the scoring rate was high and 6s needed to be hit but he wouldn't refuse a single to tie the game.

What Miller did was moronic and Dhoni wasn't one of the best LOI captains by being a moron. Today's game shows exactly why SA haven't won ICC tourneys. With this level of decision making and idiocy, we saw in real-time how Saffers crumble mentally under pressure.

Listen to cricinfo Steyn was stumped by what Miller did :) This is a text book example of how their decision making get impaired under pressure.

That's what I mentioned that this was an actual dive into their thinking and decision making under pressure. This showed that the reason SA struggled to win an ICC tourney was not due to bad luck. It was all due to SA not able to handle pressure. Today's incident showed why SA are known as chokers.

Exactly. Last season, when they needed 2 of 4, he declined a single, but then took a single of the next ball and then Kamboj hit a boundary.

Refusing a single when 4 were required of 2 balls still makes sense. It's a low percentage for Kuldeep to get 3 of the last ball. But when you needed 2 of 2, it absolutely made sense to take the single, at least guarantee a tie, and trust Kuldeep to get 1 of the last ball

Miller showed some improvement here and there. But in the semi final once again he kept trying to get out to Rachin Ravindra and eventually got out to him.

Are you able to lip-read what he says in the beginning.

He says savadichuduven. Not able to figure what he says before that

1999 WC - With scores level and 9 down, Klusener runs like a man possessed on the 4th ball. Donald run out and Aus wins.

2003 WC - Its raining vs SL and Boucher hits ball 5 for six but plays out last ball before rain stops play for no run. D/L has them tied at that 229 score while one more run would have won it. They needed the "win".

Klusener, Boucher, Miller - its a pattern of screw ups with last singles.

Don't forget ABD missing a run out vs NZ in 2015 and Klaasen and co botching a run chase when 30 of 30 balls were required in the 2024 WC final

Agreed. Dhoni would not have gone this far. This decision just doesn't make any sense. My point was that it is over confidence in one's own ability bordering on being cocky when you are in a good striking form. I think the 6 he hit before that ball that launched the ball out of the stadium may have played a large part in his thinking.

This is not just being cocky and overconfident, this is putting your self ahead of the team. You take a single and the game is tied. The worst outcome is that you get to a Super Over, and quite likely you're able to sneak a single on the last delivery. So the only two results were possible - win or a tie. But Miller's decision to not take a single added one more result to the possibility - loss along with win and ties.

Even mathematically and logically this doesn't make any sense. You essentially are taking a higher favored outcome and trading it for a lower outcome or more risky one. How can a professional cricketer and a batter playing at the highest level for so long make such a decision? Someone needs to grill Miller to finally understand what goes in Saffers' mind when pressure is high. Psychologists may actually learn something new and help SA out with their mental block.

Miller didn't trust Kuldeep ' s ability to run and he was proved right ,as Kuldeep got run out.

How far from the crease Kuldeep was running.Kuldeep would have got run out on both the occasion
