Would you make any changes to our ODI squad based on IPL 2026 ? ( preparing for ODI WC 2027 )

What is needed, keeping in mind that we are playing in South Africa and Zimbabwe ?

[ Playing both Rohit and Kohli would be a risk in 2027 and Kohli is performing better ]

----  A dashing opener who relishes pace and bounce, to replace Rohit

Would like to try and prepare Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The days he gets going, we will be at a tremendous advantage.

----  A keeper batsman to replace the choking KL Rahul.

Dhruv Jurel.  Can play pace and bounce, has good temperament and can hit 4s / 6s.

----  A pacer all-rounder as Hardik's backup OR  6th bowling option.

Nitish Reddy or Shivam Dube.

Anyone else there ?

----  An express pacer to shake up batters in bouncy South Aftica and Zimbabwe.

Ashok Sharma or Mayank.Yadav ( only if he proves his fitness )

1. Gill

2. Vaibhav

3. Kohli

4. Shreyas

5. Jurel

6. Hardik

7. Nitish / Axar

8. Harshit .. can bat and hit

9. Kuldeep

10. Arshdeep

11. Bumrah

12. Jaiswal

13. Pant

14. Axar / Nitish

15. Ashok / Mayank

16. Prasidh

1.No i would not drop KL for one dayers .My hunch -We should see better performance from KL from now on .

2.I prefer Jurel over Iyer since this WC is in SA and the kind of game he has against pace - the pulls & cuts .More rounded player than iyer and has the defence to carry through tough period in 50 overs plus he will be 2 nd keeper . I think he is a must.

3.Also Jaiswal is a must for ODI Xi.

4.Would like to take a punt on Bishnoi  ion 16 if he is bowling the way he doing now.

5. Gill can be No.3 as i see a replacement will be needed for VK.

Performances are always there in ODIs but chokes in big matches.

Jurel is there in my 11.

Shreyas is temperamentally strong in big ODIs.

Doubt Kohli will leave after his recent ODI 100s.

So how do we bring in Jaiswal ?

Better than Kuldeep ?

Yes and no, wont touch the 5/6 batters who have been playing for some time, only 15 months are left, including some new player will be adding a lot of pressure on them.

What Ind needs is LH middle order batter who can bowl a bit, 2 more pacers and 1 pacer who can bat.

LH mo batter there is none in IPL, no pacer who can bat, 1 of 2 pacers could be Ashok

Agree on mental aspect side  but skill wise there is no doubt ,  The brand of cricket in whiteball  now making many to develop newer shots , more agrressive and play with a specific goal. TM should be specific that his role will be WK + middle Order power hitter with a minimum strike rate . In one dayers  need guys who have power hitting ability with  decent technique to minimise too much risk.

Think he is adapting when looking at recent knock in IPL.  Looking at SA pitches i would like to have some one better suited against pace with  a better defence.

In MO i would still prefer KL over Shreyas as he aslo is the 2nd keeper in 16. Shreyas does not provide that option . Any way shreyas will  be in 16 in my list.

So how do we bring in Jaiswal ?

Yes ROKO may still hang on more due to  their hold with right people who matter but do not like one bit to go with 2 40 yrs batters . We need to see, do they still have the same reflexes against pace & swing . Will not go by  recent scores on Indian pattas .  No emotions in selection. For me Ro is a clear out . VK if in form might be included but always be ready to niggle out  which i feel might happen. Hence need to keep jaiswal ready .

Better than Kuldeep ?

Will go by Form . Kuldeep at times goes totally off colour . Kuldeep , Axar , Bishnoi would 3 spinners in contention  . May work as defensive bowler when needed if he maintains better control .

These would be probables and from that who maintains form nearing WC should be in the 16 list.

Vaibhav in T20 only.. let's not rush the kid into ODI set up.

Jaiswal Shreyas even Samson deserves a run.  Samson has a good record in SA.

In ODI finishing is our major issue so dump Sadeja.

Fast bowling groom Ashok in the bilaterals (but they won't)

Vaibhab is playing 50 over matches.

In 8 List A matches, he has a SR of 164 and average of 44.

This is a mind-boggling combo.

Bilateral ODIs are lower pressure matches than IPL matches and we have 16 months to groom him.

Shreyas is in the playing 11 in ODIs.

Jaiswal is in the squad. Started to get a few games.

IMHO, rather than taking a  " he deserves " approach, pick players who are likely to deliver in the available slot / playing condition.

Sanju is comfortable at the top of the order and that is where he delivers. But the top order is full in ODIs and he will have to bat at 5 or 6, where he is not that good.

In fact among the young big bashing openers like Abhishek,Arya, Prabh ,Kishan , Sanju  i feel  Vaibhav has the better probability of consistent success in ODI going ahead as he irons out his game against short stuff and second if counters bowlers consistently bowling  wide of off with change of pace with 2 boundary riders on the off side in PP  . (Sanju good but more inconsistent for his experience)

He is better than others in below areas -

1.  He does not move about a lot like prabh, abhishek , His head and body very steady .

2.  generates incredible  power so even mishit also clears boundary - do not think others match him in this even at this age.

3. Apparently can hit at any area - on , off , down the ground, ramp shot. deft shots

4. Uses smarts - does not hit every ball, defends good deliveries and seem to pick areas to hit based on fielders stationed.

5. Ability to change shot  mid way .

6.  Already built a reputation that if bowlers bowl 1-2 avarage deliveries they will go out of the ground. Thus bowlers tend to make more mistakes unless they are really good bowlers.

7. All his shots are good cricket shots hit with power & timing and no hanky panky shots and has the game to stay if he wants to.

Proof is- he is the only one who has among these attacked successfully world class bowlers like - Josh, Rabada, Bhuvi, Rashid , Siraj, Bhumra , Trent etc.  Imagine the carnage for 10 overs with only 2 outside the circle if he stays through PP. !!!

Vaibhav is a must, keep guy like Jurel away from all Indian teams. They have so many better options than this guy.His keeping is horrible on top of everything.
