jaffer should not play another test match. gambhir wont fail. he has a excellent record against sl & amongst the younger players(<30), gambhir is the best batsman we have & gambhir is the man in form in odis & 20/20 and he will take his odi successes into tests as well. just wait & watch

Jaffer is a predominantly front foot player and will face difficulties playing abroad. He will play well where the bounce is even and the track is flat. His century against Pakistan was on an absolute flat track. GG on the other hand, is a very good player off the back foot as well as the front foot. I am sure he will do very well on every kind of pitch.

Gautam has worked very hard on his batting..infact he was falling over initially and he has remedied that..so its jus a reward for his hard work and although he still is not technically perfect, he is a very good batsman and has a higher percentage of succeeding in foreign conditions than Jaffer..Jaffers technical flaws were exposed in the Oz tour and i can safely say that there are no more comebacks in his career..

Jaffer just seems like such a misfit in the test arena. Doesnt have the mental strength to survive nor makeup for his technical weaknesses. If not for Dungsucker, I doubt whether he would have had a chance to make his previous comeback either.

i agree that WS did not do too well...as an opener.... but i want to discuss another opener....who did not get enough chance to prove himself... He did well for himself in his australian tour and other matches that he played...and he occupied one end of the pitch...while sehwag would blast from the other end... IMO...he was doing what team management asked him to do..that ..to blunt the shine of the ball...and occupy the crease... his technique is decent enough to survive and play anywhere.... ENG, SA or AUS or IND.. we should have given him some more tests to see if he could turn in 30s into 100s..as an opener...at decent SR...

njkiller, stop kidding yourself. ipl can't be even a criteria to chose test opener. where the heck did you think IPL will come and play role to give birth to a test opener for India. Aakash Chopra and Gambhir have been two fantastic openers who have been ignored for a while now by bcci. if even one of them is given chance, i would be happy. good to see now gambhir being given chance, hope Aakash will get his too, may be a mention in team squad in future.

people r undermining jaffer here, i think he did quite well since his comeback with a decent performance in south africa and very good performances in england and vs pak, although i think GG will do well

whatever jaffer can do, gambhir can do it better. we missed gambhir in the aus tour in tests. i cant understand y was gambhir given an injury by the bcci when he wasnt injured at all. in the time when gambhir was meant to be "injured", he was smashing heaps of runs & 100s in the ranji & even took delhi to a ranji trophy win
