SKY was kicked out both as a captain and player after being part of two back to back world t20 championships and captain in last one . They held his lack of performances for last two years and showed him exit door. It should be always about performance  and SKY was not upto the mark .No complaints there.

 

Will the same yardstick be applied to both Head Coach and Selectors.Indian test cricket since both GG and Agarkar have taken over has gone to dogs.We even saw hypocrite Gambhir giving statement  "I am the same coach who won Champions trophy after SA test series debacle".

 

So will these two gentlemen show themselves exit door and let some other comptent men take over reins in test cricket.Or only players are going to be held responsible for bad performances but head coach and selectors will take credit for the good ones.

It's all about who wields power and influence. Some powerful players stuck around way past their expiration dates. SKY obviously did not have that superstar power, and was let go (I think it was the right call, but it should be made with all non-performers).

I am not debating if it was right call or not.I also think was right call with SKY but it was very easy call to make.

 

These coaches and selectors have too much influence on making and breaking careers along with team's performance.But they are not ready take any responsibility if things go bad but are first ones to take credit for good things.

Didn't Gambhir retire mid series and return his salary to the DC owners when he was badly struggling as a player+captain in the 2018 IPL? He has his flaws but I feel he has the best interests of Indian cricket at heart.

 

 

SKY has been treated as an expendable, and that surely is a sore point. Dropping him is the right call but they could have taken him into confidence about their plans and offered him a chance at a graceful exit. Instead, he came to know via a leaked news piece.

 

Shami too, despite a stellar record, has been treated poorly. His fitness and stamina are big question marks, but IMO he deserved atleast 1-2 more games to prove or disprove it, and a nice send off.

Who selects test team based on IPL. That is what these two bozos have been doing.Ajit Agarkar can question Shami's fitness but when he proved his fitness by playing all domestic tournaments, he still has no call up for even odis forget tests.Shouldn't player of that caliber deserve better treatment.

What Gambhir did as a player is unprecedented. He voluntarily dropped himself from the team saying he wasn't helping the team and didn't deserve to be in the playing XI. I don't know of any instance where any Indian player ever did so.

The closest example which comes to mind is Dhawan when he was dropped in 2021 in favor of Jaiswal. Dhawan wasn't bitter at all and said that if he was the selector he would select Jaiswal ahead of him as well since Jaiswal is the future.

 

Gambhir may have his flaws and I don't like the way he has played favorites ignoring likes of Sarfaraz while pushing for Sai and Sundar, but he wants India to win and Indian cricket to succeed. Wish he would push for Sai in ODIs and kick out Sundar.

To be fair Gambhir has delivered 2 ICC trophies in 2 years and a drawn series in England with a young team. 

 

That said, I personally think he should not be red ball coach and a whole different Test orientated coaching setup is needed for Indian Test Cricket. But format mixing has always been common in thinktank's brains so his white ball wins will overshadow a few poor home test performances.
