Dinesh Kartik has a much better technique and a much better batsman than Dhoni in tests in overseas conditions. He has opened in SA and England and has good average here. Dhoni doesnt cut it as a test batsman and he is not improving his technique after having played so many tests. Its better if he plays only ODIs because that's the format where he thrives in. Kartik is a bad keeper for spinners but its something he can work on. It wouldnt be a bad thing to have Kartik in the team as keeper and have Kohli or Pujara as test captain. Even as a test captain, Dhoni cant read the game well enough and cant formulate strategies for bowling or batting. He is not much of a tactician and he is much better suited for ODIs.

Dhoni failed in both opportunities to save us in this Test. Looking at the way Zak was connecting the ball and defending until he lasted, Dhoni should have backed himself to make a fist of it. In one dayers i don't see him taking singles of first ball as he knew only he could hit big sixes. What changed in Tests? What made him think that Zak could survive better than himself?
