You are right that Argentina as a team works very well but in depth the quality they have is clearly a notch below major sides like France Spain England.

 

Messi alone carried this team on his  back.  Favorable draw helped as well.

Most of their players have won zilch at club level for a reason.

Enzo has never even won a domestic trophy. At Chelsea, it's been all disappointing seasons

Indian fans are even bigger Messi devotees including abdools of Kerala and Bengal...  

 

 

Both India and Kanglus have some ret@rd level devotion towards Argentina and got trolled badly for it this WC it was brutal on social media and Football spaces.

With all that not just this match but Spain needed stoppage time goal vs Portugal  plus a 2nd extra time goal vs Argentina to win. Mind you Argies had one less recovery day than Spain due to the SF scheduling on Tue for Spain vs Wed for Argentina.

There is more than one ways to skin a cat.  So far only one goal has been scored against Spain in the entire world cup. They have not lost 36 games in a row.  As we say in cricket bowlers win tournaments batsmen win matches.  Bowling equivalence is their defense. Give some cerdit to Martinez for saving 11 goals in a single match. Any other inept GK would have allowed atleast 4 or 5 to go through. Key point is how they rendered Messi absolutely impotent until the extra time where they were slightly slack.  If only England had emplyed the same strategy they could have won. But those lazy buggers hardly had any energy to move around unlike spaniards.

Shouldn't go overboard with praise for Spain either, good to have a balance.

 

For example many of their players are hardly stars and have had ineffectual seasons as well. But they come together well as a team.

 

Simon is average at club level. Laporte was bouncing around in Saudi Arabia. Oyarzobal scored 8 goals from open play last season. Baena is very average and reserve at Barcelona.. Pedro Porro nearly got relegated with Tottenham.

Messi is a player of generation. When we can have retarded fans for chokli, devotion for messi is OK.
