Test series coming up vs Sri Lanka

We need specialist batters and bowlers who can win it for us.

1. Jaiswal

2. Rahul

3. Sudarshan

4. Gill

5. Pant

6. Jurel

7. Jadeja / Washington

8. Suthar

9. Gurnoor

10. Kuldeep

11. Bumrah

....  7 best batsmen

....  batting till 8 ....  9 can hit too

....  2 best pacers

....  3 best spinners needed in SL

....  5 best bowlers for Asian conditions.

12.  ??

13. Shaikh Rasheed

14. Washington / Jadeja

15. Prasidh

16. Siraj

●  Gurnoor must, must play ahead of Siraj as he can pick wickets on flat decks. (  While Siraj is good in tests only when he is leading the bowling in SENA )

●  Would have liked Sarfraz at 6 but he is not even in the A team.

●  Sudarshan is the only one who have prepared for No.3, so no other choice for us. Plus he is in good form.

●  Rahul backup keeper ... Sudarshan backup opener.

●  Kuldeep will turn the ball away from LHB and act like an off spinner.

I will choose

1. Jaiswal
2. D Malewar / Musheer

3. Sudharshan

4. Gill

5. Jurel

6. Pant

7. Jadeja / Suthar

8. Washington
9. Kuldeep / Siraj
10. Gurnoor
11. Bumrah

Need a new RHB opener to partner Jaiswal....Malewar or Musheer both are young and playing in SL will given them an oppty
Jadeja and Washy will give us SLA/OS option...Manav Suthar can replace Jadeja if team wants to take a gamble
Gurnoor and Bumrah will be a lock in coz we need to give Gurnoor as many opportunities as we can. Kuldeep can swap with Siraj if the conditions are overcast as the series is in monsoon of Aug season.
Don't want KL Rahul, his time is up. Jurel is an upgrade over him any time of the year and he can open as well.

BENCH

Musheer
Suthar
Siraj
Ashok* (wildcard, but would like him to be part of the series vs SL)

Bro, they should have tried Ashok Sharma in atleast one of the Unofficial Tests instead of wasting space on so many trundlers.

I would like him in the test squad too, but they rarely choose anyone for tests or ODIs without A-team exposure. And it is probably right too. But, for that, A-teams must be chosen better instead of being platforms to placate big IPL franchises.

Don't know why they chose Mokhade instead of Musheer or Malewar in our A-team.

Is Mokhade supposed to be good against pace or movement ?

Dont see him quite special, unless he has added any dimension to I am not aware of.

Mokhade's best numbers are in List A, his FC numbers are okaish. But dont think List A is the right format to judge batters as even Ruturaj Gaekwad has phenomenol numbers...Musheer & Malewar have scored runs in FC as an opener/one down. That counts something.

Yeah, its a wishful thinking. In reality they will go with either Prasidh or Akashdeep (if fit). Yash Thakur is another wild card which may come in.

Ashok has played very less FC matches, coz he debuted last year only, so that may still go against him as selectors feel he is not used to bowling so many overs in a day. But his rise in last 1 year is phenomenal so that should keep him motivated. Plus, even Gill seem to like him and his new ball skills.

Only caveat I see with both Suthar & Jadeja is they are similar bowlers. Although Axar & Jadeja also have played together but Axar is taller and gets bounce....Suthar is a traditional SLA.

God I wish if Sindhu continues to bowl consistently, as his batting in FC is leagues above Suthar & Washy, its just that his bowling is more on the defensive side as he bowls with a flatter trajectory which is more suited for short format.

My 11

1 Yashasvi Jaiswal

2 Prithvi Shaw

3 Sai Sudharsan

4 Shubman Gill

5 Shaik Rasheed

6 Rishabh Pant

7 Ravindra Jadeja

8 Manav Suthar

9 Jain

10 Jasprit Bumrah

11 Gurnoor Brar

Backups

1 Dhruv Jurel

2 Mohammed Siraj

3 Harsh Dubey

4 Devdutt Padikkal

Why I pick Shaw is because he will destroy spinners we are missing a spin basher like Sehwag Shaw can replicate that against spinners KL Rahul will not score any runs

There will not be major changes in the team.

Jaiswal

Rahul

Sudarshan

Gill

Pant

Jurel

Jadeja

Sundar

Axar

Bumrah

Siraj

Prasidh

Gurnoor

Suthar

Paddikal.

Sarfaraz should be part of the squad and should bat at 5 or 6

For SL test series. Given that their bowling looks a bit weak (WI bats dominated them recently), I would use this is an opportunity to try out some new batters:

Jaiswal

Malewar

Sudarshan

Gill

Pant

Sarfaraz

Sundar

Suthar

Dubey

Brar

Bumrah

Reserves

Padikkal (open/TO)

Rathod (MO)

Ashok Sharma (pace)

Jain (spin)

(1) I am tired of stat-padding Rahul

(2) Great opportunity to bring back Sarfaraz who deserves his place as much as anyone

(3) Suthar and Dubey can both provide some rearguard batting

(4) Bumrah will hopefully destroy them

(5) Sudarshan keeps scoring in A-matches and can't be ignored

For me, all the preparation should be geared towards the ODI World Cup .

So for the next 18 months , I want full strength squads for all ODI's, a couple more ODI series to test out players/combinations .

Even if all this comes at the cost of T20I matches and T20I/Test match squads.

What will be your target ODI playing 11 as of now ?   It will obviously be subject to change.

Am I the only one who does not see this guy as an international prospect. I don't remember any sustained domestic/IPL achievements from him - except for the odd flash-in-the-pan innings and a high dose of overconfidence bordering on arrogance. Why am I wrong?

For next bilaterals, whatever they are:

Gill

Jaiswal

Kohli

Iyer

Kishan

Pandya

Roy

Dubey

Siraj

Brar

Rana

Tentative first choice XI for now

Gill

Jaiswal

Kohli

Iyer

KL

Parag

Pandya

Rana

Kuldeep

Bumrah

Gurnoor

But additionally, these players should be rotated and tried out

Reddy

Axar

Prasidh

Arshdeep

Sai(backup for top order)

Punja

Anukul

Shedge

Pant

These 20 players, off the top of my head, should be priority and should be prepped for the World Cup

1 batsman , 1 spin allrounder, 1 pacer, 1 seam allrounder and 1 specialist spinner each will be cut for the World Cup XV depending on performances
