flamy
Flamy...time will tell that....May be not the most articulative person. But bahut cricket dekhage bahut...even had the carrer at crosslines coz of this game so... I understand man, just friendly banter :winky: :isalute: Link to comment
theguyinallblue
i think we are giving too much importance to 20-20 and ODIs performance... this is where boards will ave to step-up and act in the interest of the real game of cricket..that is Test Cricket. if we start recognizing the performances of 20-20 and ODIs..and giving the players awards on this basis...and then BCCI is basically killing the test cricket... this is not in the interest of the game.....before Dhoni...there are many which have done so well for india... i am fine with Ganguly's omission as he is just a mediocre test player...but Dravid and Kumble have been the piller of strength in Test cricket...and whatever Wins we have seen in this decade and the last decade is mainly because of these two legends.. Ravi shastri and Sunny should pass on some cricketing gyan to BCCI babus...and stop the slow poisoning of indian cricket.. Link to comment
Ram
He richly deserves it. He is Indian cricket's MVP in the last 15 months. Link to comment
satishg
Dhoni :hatsoff: he has been the linchpin of our ODI team for the last 1 year and this is a recognition for all his hard work.. ok din know that Khel Ratna was THE highest sporting award..so sorry editing..he doesn deserve it..:D Link to comment
theguyinallblue
Sriram..would you give Khel Ratn to some one who is performing since last 15 months or to some one who is performing at the highest order for last 15 years? Link to comment
The Outsider
Test cricket is slowly but surely counting it's last breaths. Not much life left in it - no money, no crowds, no patrons, no fame. When 4 year old mediocre test performers are lauded and awarded with such awards ahead of people who have been performing in tests for 16 years and also the decision also gets defended and justified by the fans there isn't much hope. I dont know who you are comparing with Dhoni, but its these awards arent just about on-field acheievements alone Sandeep. Dhoni is a big star and also a role-model. He's impacted Indian cricket more than most people. Link to comment

This is a travesty. T20 is dead, Long Live T20 :(( Link to comment

cowboysfan
cricketers should not be given the award unless you are someone like sachin. They should be considered once they are retired.I am sure kumble will get it once he retires. Link to comment

O.K, now that I think about it, that may have been a bit of an exaggeration. :-D Isnt the Khel Ratna the highest award for sports recognition in India? Dhoni deserves some award, but maybe not the Khel Ratna. Link to comment

Oh wait, wrong format! will there ever be an Indian bowler who would again take 600 wickets??? if there is anyone in Indian currently who deserve a recognition for his efforts and who hasn't really been recognised yet. then it's Kumble. Tendulkar has alredy been recognised, but Kumble, how many games he won for India, people just forget all that.. also Dravid Link to comment

Holysmoke
Look guys, this was BCCI's call. They were happy with his leadership/performances. He won us the inaugural T20, thus helping the T20 revolution. He captained us to the CB series in Australia, which IS a big deal. He took his mediocre IPL team to the finals. There was no way people would have punted on his team to beat Kings XI to convincingly in the semis. He did well during the year, and was, along with Kumble, one of the 2 names that the BCCI could forward. Dhoni has achieved more as a cricketer, than Kumble, in the PAST 12 MONTHS. "Yes, we have forwarded Dhoni's name for the country's highest sports award for 2007," Shetty told PTI. Oh, and T20 is fast becoming a force in cricket. Live with it. Link to comment
