6 matches 55 wkts.. witha record like that, form is definitely going to return. Amit is a good future prospect. Hear it from the horse's mouth: ----------------------------------------------- Australia in India 2008-09 'I'm raring to go at the Kotla' - Kumble October 22, 2008 Anil Kumble: "With an eye to the future, it also augurs well for India that we've found someone like Amit [Mishra]" © AFP Anil Kumble, India's Test captain, is confident of returning for the third Test against Australia in Delhi, after sitting out the second game in Mohali due to a shoulder injury. Kumble said it was unfortunate he could not be part of the combination which achieved India's biggest Test win in terms of runs - 320 - and that he was looking forward to returning to the Feroz Shah Kotla where he has taken 55 wickets in six games. "It was very heartening to see MS [Dhoni] lead from the front and it was fantastic to watch the way the team approached the game and the intensity we kept up throughout," Kumble wrote in his syndicated newspaper column. "And while I unfortunately had to sit this one out, I'm raring to get going at the Kotla, my favourite Test centre." Kumble had a forgettable outing in the first match in Bangalore, going wicketless for only the third time in his Test career. He reacted strongly to media criticism about his captaincy, form, and fitness, and insisted he would return once fully fit. Kris Srikkanth, the new chairman of selectors, agreed that Kumble had a good chance of returning for the Test, starting on October 29. "I'm very confident he will play," Srikkanth told ABC Radio. "One of the reasons he probably didn't play this (Mohali) match was so that he gets proper rest for the next two Tests." Kumble's return, however, could come at the expense of the legspinner Amit Mishra, who took seven wickets on debut. Kumble was very impressed with Mishra's use of flight and variations. "With an eye to the future, it also augurs well for India that we've found someone like Amit," Kumble wrote. "An orthodox bowler, he spins the ball a lot, uses his flight very nicely and frankly, it was great watching him. The first five-for I got told me that if I could get one, I could get more. Confidence is critical. As Amit's five-for has come in his first game itself against Australia, it's even better for him." He said Mishra was finally being rewarded after going through the grind in eight domestic seasons. "He bowled beautifully and not just by the debutant yardstick. All the hard yards he's done as a domestic cricketer served him well here. It's incredibly tough work, the domestic circuit and Amit serves as a perfect example of what perseverance can do."

I much rather they not make a rank turner. Our pace bowlers have them tied in knots with reverse swing and dropping any of them would be heretical. A normal Kotla track would do where Kumble could pretend to be injured and we could play Harbhajan and Mishra.
Thats harsh on Kumble... Why should he pretend? If he is fit, he has to play and captain the side. just because Amit Mishra had a good game as a bowler (I dont have anything against him though) and Dhoni won the test as captain, I dont think we should even think of asking Kumble to do something like that. Especially when he has such a clean record on this ground and when the curator is ready to prepare a wicket thats going to help him. What better chance to go 2-0 up in the series? Even if he fails, I think we can enough fire power in the pace bowling and in harbhajan that we can wint he test or atleast draw. After all, Kumble may be there for a few more test matches and will be gone. With age behind them, Amit and Dhoni can wait a little longer to get their place and captaincy respectively. So the best way to handle this situation is to explain Amit that he got a chance to prove his worthiness at the expense of kumble.. Now that Kumble is back, he has to sit out. Once Kumble retires, future is going to be bright for him.. Thats how it should be. When Sachin gets injured , replaced by Badrinath and when he is back again, Badrinath has to make way for Sachin. We cannot argue that Badri had to be kept in the team. That would be insasne. Same applies to the situation with Kumble and Amit Mishra.

Amit Mishra should sit out. Aussies will be spending their energy on Amit's bowling. Analysing him from every angle..and we just drop him and let Kumble Rip them this time. Again for next test they will analyse Kumble and we bring back Amit. Wow what a plan.

For those supporting Kumble' date=' he has not been able to buy a wicket for close to a year now and the lesser said about his captaincy the better. It's crazy to think about sentiments and farewells with so much at stake. Have them at Nagpur when we have won the series.[/quote'] What you are saying is not right. Its not about sentiment. Its about whats the best combination. Even Sachin was scratching around for so many test matches to get to his world record.. Dint we keep faith in him to deliver? Your argument of dropping Kumble to include a rookie like Amit Mishra who has played just one match, doesn't hold good. Dropping kumble means dropping 100+ test match experience and 600+ wickets... for someone who has just 1 match and 7 wickets to boast. Would you have the same argument, if Amit Mishra's debut was like that of Cameroon White?

I can't believe India are even considering dropping mihsra for a guy that took one wicket in 65 overs in the first drawn test. I would hate to think what would happen with the public backlash if kumble plays and does nothing as australia tie up the series at 1-1 while mishra is sitting being 12th man.

Laxman for Mishra. 5 man bowling attack...two pace, three spin. Dhoni is showing enough form to trust him as a good bat so Laxman may have to miss out. We have enough batting without him...even though it pains me to say so, as I love watching him bat...my all time favourite. But team interests and objectives should come first.

marsh to replace jaques http://content-ind.cricinfo.com/indvaus2008/content/current/story/374985.html Australia in India 2008-09 Marsh called up to replace Jaques Cricinfo staff October 22, 2008 Shaun Marsh in action during Australia's ODI tour of West Indies earlier this year © Getty Images Shaun Marsh has been called up to replace the injured Phil Jaques for Australia's tour of India. Jaques was ruled out of Australia's tour of India with a long-standing back injury prior to their second Test at Mohali. Jaques joined Bryce McGain as the second Australian to depart the tour early, but his absence gives Marsh - a highly rated batsman and the son of Australia's former opener and national selector, Geoff - another opportunity at the highest level. Marsh played eight one-dayers during Australia's tour of West Indies in June this year, though has yet to make his Test debut. Marsh, significantly, has experience of Indian conditions; he played for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL earlier this year and ended the tournament as the highest runscorer. "Shaun has been selected having opened the batting for Australia in the one-day international arena and shown great potential," Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of selectors, said. "He has recently moved to opening the batting in all three forms of the game in interstate competition and played very well in Western Australia's run chase and victory at the WACA against New South Wales. "As a replacement batsman on the tour, should the opportunity arise, we are confident that Shaun could fill any role in the batting order. We have also taken the opportunity to enhance Shaun's international experience as we consider him to be one of the promising young batsmen in Australia capable of having a significant impact in Australian cricket in the future." Going into a test match, where you've to potentially bat for nealy 225 overs with only 5 specialist batsman is NOT a good idea. We've been lulled into a fall sense of confidence coz the openers have unfailingly given the team good starts. They're due a failure at some point. And heavens forbid, a couple of early wickets fall and we find ourselves at 150/4, then that can mean disaster. And dont for a moment think the Aussie batsman will continue to behave like target practice for the Indian bowlers. They've too much quality to keep failing. The last thing we need at this stage is for them to amass a big score and for us to falter coz our tail is longer than our batting order.

Kumble is rariring to go and Kotla can never be a rank turner. It is that skiddy surface and do you remember MD Nissar Trophy where some Sui Gas bowler from Pak wrecked Delhi which had Sehwag and Gambhir in their team? How can a pitch change its character? At the most it'll be a dry and abrasive pitch which will only help reverse swing. So what is the problem? The only problem is that our batsmen will not find it as easy to score here if the pitch is uneven and all that.
hey gambhir didn't play in that game..

Sriram, You have to back yourself and go for the kill. On the kotla surface, we have the bowling advantage so we should be on the attack and signal that too and at the same time show confidence in our top and middle order. And no, I am not taking the aussie batsmen for granted...hence the strengthened bowling to ensure we have the firepower to knock them over even if they have a stiffened response. Your's is the more responsible approach, I agree. Mine I think, the more result orientated, either way. Batsman must perform.

Dropping a batsman is not even on the horizon, if there is something its between Jumbo and Mishy, either way i think we are fav. to win this as well, i personally would like the guy in form to be picked coz its unfair to drop him only coz there is someone else with past pedigree.

I agree with MM. Five batsmen is not a great idea. The lack of an all rounder is already hurting us. But I have a feeling that Kumble will turn the table this time around. If its an absolute turner, we can drop one of the fast men. If its not, we can go with the current balance dropping one of the spinners to make way for the captain. If it was in my hands, I would play exactly the same team that won at Mohali. For both Mishra and Dhoni.
