Countdown to Ishant Sharma being ranked number 1 bowler

What a disappointment this guy is. Has a good height, good pace but still doesn't know how to take wickets even on pitches which helps fast bowlers. If he doesn't take wickets in the remaining matches He needs to go back to domestic cricket and learn how to be a wicket taker and particularly how to bowl to left handers. He is only 23 and can return as a better bowler.

Who hell is talking about this domestic season and domestic games are not world cup which will come after 4 years. I said if he doesn't take wickets in the remaining matches he should be dropped from the team and should be sent to play domestic cricket (whenever it starts) before taking him back in the team.

He was already taking wickets in domestic cricket before being selected to the Indian team. He is not selected without taking wickets. He will make meal of most Indian domestic batsmen. Whatever, he will learn, he will learn here, not in domestic.

Even in domestic cricket he has an average of 31 with a strike rate of 58, its not as if he was a genuine wicket taker at domestic level as well. He has pace, good height and he has played 4 years of international cricket, but still nothing to show on an important tours. For how long should we keep on carrying him by saying that he is still learning and is unlucky.

Remove all those tests and then see his average and SR in domestic. He has much better record in tests played in India, averaged 28 before WI test series. He is very much like Srinath in that aspect. He does not bowl well in helpful tracks and bowl well on nonhelpful tracks in India that is the problem with him.

The problem with Ishant is we see the potential, he has the pace, height, stamina, attitude, which is not too common with Indian pacers, he needs to learn to bowl a bit fuller , more balls in the right areas, and move the ball even a bit.I think county cricket could be g8 for him, he can bowl everyday, find out about his action, stock ball, variations , moving the ball, best finishing school, also him being young. He can come back as a world class bowler. He has underperformed and not been that effective, or maybe a g8 bowling coach could help.

He just needs to be consistent and learn to concentrate. He has concentration problem. A good stint of county cricket will do him real good in the off-season. After IPL, India won't be playing any big series, that will be the time to send him to county. Quite frankly, no-one even from team management wants to loose a fast bowler like him, he is real fast, tall and gets great bounce and extreme stamina. Where do you find such fast bowlers in India? Thats y, they are persisting with him. And that is a good move given that next world cup is in Australia

How does one get a County contract? I mean on what criteria does a team pick an overseas player to represent them?
He himself has to earn it. Not sure if he ever had any offer or not. If he hasn't got any offers, he might not get in future too, given his shyte bowling (zero variations and being a duffer) and no improvement so far... "Poot Ke Panw Paalney Mein Hi Dikh Jaate Hain"..He's someone who will be happy to play in IPL.. In IPL too he's a waste of money..

People are bit over the top critical on him in my view. He always bowled well even away from home when in form (New zealand , West Indies) not just in India. He is struggling for form admittedly but our batsmen arent exactly making it easy for him with their pathetic batting and fielding. He still has two tests in this series to perform if he fails then he needs to return to domestic cricket and work hard. All this talks of going for county cricket are unnecessary he just needs to work on his bowling in Ranji trophy. And the good thing is with us playing mostly in India for next 2 years he will have plenty of time to work on his bowling since we will only play 2 seamers and Zaheer and Umesh will be first picks.

His brother Atul Sharma had more potential. In all seriousness he is one of the most overrated bowlers. He still could have done reasonably well but some people need to look at the techical aspects which have let him down. For example his seam position is all scrambled where as before it was nice and straight and with that he would swing the ball a lot as well if conditions were in his favour. Those 2 aspects have gone so all we have now is a bowler with some height and pace but even then his accuracy is very poor. So sad to say he will be an average bowler at best.
