Shehezaada
does anybody remember the series in 01 against England? Hussin packed the off side with an 8-1 field to Tendulkar. Tendulkar responded by walking across and smashing runs to the legside. Aussies just did NOT do anything yesterday which is actually very surprising. So much for new age cricket. Link to comment
flamy
Brilliant article. Would any of the dumbass Indian media actually print this or nod their heads to Aussies? Link to comment
flamy
I still remember Sachin's 241 where he left everything outside off-stump and still scored so many runs! That is a TEST cricketer. :isalute: Link to comment

Kohum
Brilliant article. Would any of the dumbass Indian media actually print this or nod their heads to Aussies? It's really sad that this brilliant of a fella isn't posting for cricket. on rediff Link to comment
fineleg
Prem Panicker writes some very good blog posts. Can we invite him to ICF for a chat session? Link to comment
fineleg
We are 1-0 up in the series. We are fully privileged to do any tactics within the rule book. We can win the series with a draw, Aus are the ones who need to do something out of the blue. MSD was right. Link to comment
Ram
This is THE most one-sided poll in the history of ICF, of course, after Amits poll on whether Sehwag was better than Bradman, to which a vast majority of the posters correctly responded in the affirmative. :D Link to comment
King
Against the Aussies anything is fair. Link to comment
bharat297
It was defensive but when the opposition is 2/200 ... going on the defensive is understandable. Once Dhoni got the breakthrough he went back on the attack. Thats fine. Link to comment
bharat297
That one sided field was just for a couple of hours in the first session. From the second session, India went on the attack. At the end of the day, if India were overly defensive they wouldnt have picked up 8 wickets. Link to comment
bharat297
Ian Chappell had the audacity to mention the over-rates The over-rates were appalling again. The Indians really showed the true colour of cricketers. They are just not bothered by fines. They were quite prepared to slow the over-rate in the morning and even use it as a tactic. That is ridiculous. You shouldn't be allowed to use it as a tactic. Until the administrators suspend the captain for a couple of Tests' date=' they are not going to get anywhere with over rates. They haven't got anywhere with fines because fines don't work. They need to start suspending the captain. [/quote'] Perhaps Chappell should take note of the fact that the Australians have not once completed anywhere near the required number of overs (even with the extra half an hour each day) during this series. This comment by Chappell is extremely biased and one sided. If Dhoni should get a fine, then Ponting deserves one too. I am not sure (if someone could please check it) but haven't our over rates been slightly better than the Australians this series? Link to comment
Sachinism
To take the last point first—89 overs were bowled today, one short of the mandatory 90. In the first two Tests, Australia never managed, despite playing time being extended by half an hour, to bowl 85 overs in a day source: Prem Panicker Link to comment
bharat297
Thats what I suspected. Thank you. Link to comment
bharat297
even though it looks similar but 8-1 is much more defensive than 7-2.it basically kills any chance of oppositions scoring like it did today.if u want to beat other teams do that by ur skill n acumen . a team like b'desh wud escape wid a draw in every test match if it applies dhoni's tactics.so it was disgraceful. if dhoni had 'extreme' confidence in bowlers why did nt he set traditional attacking fields a tried to get them out. ponting had applied 7-2 fields only when aus was out of the match and he never went to 8-1. the 8-1 field only went on for a couple of hours ... then dhoni went back to a conventional field but the Aussies still didnt attack. at the end of the day india took 8 wickets in 1 day ... you cant do that if youre too defensive. putrevus
Ian Chappell is A-hole , he thinks what aussies do is good for the game and when Indians do it it should be outlawed , didnt Aussies bowl negative lines to Gambhir and Sewhag both in mohali and Delhi, he was saying those were great tactics and now when Indians used those tactics they are bad for the game. gs
Anything that works!!! 8 wickets for 160 odd runs and 86 runs lead is plenty to justify any tactics!!! Link to comment

bharat297
i dont agree with the tactics at all . i agree that we got wickets.although lucky' date=' few of them.[b']katich was wrongly given lbw n watson played onto his stumps.which wicket do u think was inspired by 8-1 field? none. The ball was hitting leg. Close? Yes ... Wrong? No. But moreover the 8-1 field was supposed to slow down Australias momentum. Australia were scoring pretty quickly and after 2 hours of the 8-1 field , they stopped to a standstill. Then when the field was put back they couldnt attack, and India capitalised. It was about slowing the momentum. Link to comment
putrevus
The problem with Aussies or English media is they cant accept the fact that they were out thought by Indians or any asians for that matter of fact, Thats why English media was crying foul over IPL and Aussie media whining over Dhoni's tactics today. What was so remarkable today was how well Indian fast bowlers bowled and stuck to their task so admirably. If not for rotten catching by Dravid and laxman they should have wrapped Aussies for a lower total. If you read any Aussie media Hussey's runout is termed freak incident, if that was done by say symonds or Clarke they would hail it as genius and great. That in itself shows their double standards.
