Just thought I'll make a thread on bravehearts who have done our country proud and sacrificed themselves to ensure that we sleep soundly at night. Please feel free to mention martyrs that have inspired you. Mohan Chand Sharma A daredevil and highly decorated inspector(he won the President's medal). He laid down his life for the country when he engaged with terrorists in New Delhi. Attained martydom on 19th September 2008 Hemant Karkare An outstanding IPS officer who held several key positions, last of which was as ATS Chief. He laid down his life battling terrorists in Mumbai. Attained martyrdown on 26th November 2008 Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan A brave Indian Armyman who was serving in the NSG. Before he laid down his life battling terrorists in Mumbai, he had said - "“Do not come up, I will handle them.". Attained martyrdown on 28th November 2008 Ashok Kamte An IPS officer who had represented India in junior weight lifting . Mumbai's brave ACP laid down his life battling terrorists in Mumbai. Attained martyrdown on 26th November 2008 Vijay Salaskar A Mumbai police officer who became an encounter specialist by gunning down almost 80 Mumbai criminals. He laid down his life battling terrorists in Mumbai. Attained martyrdown on 26th November 2008 Captain Vikram Batra Only 25 years old, brave Param Vir Chakra awardee Captain Batra fought for his country in the Kargil war. His 'yeh dil maange more' spirit egged on his colleagues and he laid down his life battling terrorists at Point 4875 . Attained martyrdown on 7th July 1999 :isalute:

I personally would never use the word martyr for these peopele because it has a religious significance and these heros died for their country being Patriots rather than for religious loyalty.
