Lord
We FAILED to win this Test Match when Dravid' date=' SRT and Laxman batted like a bunch of sissies on Day 4. That's what prolonged the declaration by a good session and assured a draw. Not like Dhoni declaring at lunch on Day 5 would've given us a result. We weren't getting them out in 50 odd overs anyway. I don't blame Dhoni for anything. Might as well go for centuries if a result is out of the question.[/quote'] who promoted dravid, laxman ahead of yuvraj? we could have got result in 68 overs possible today.remember we got the last 6 english wickets for 22 runs in first innings.to say we couldnt have won in timid.we cant give up like that.whats the harm in trying? HouMac
who promoted dravid' date='laxman ahead of yuvraj?[/quote'] We didn't need the run-a-ball-play of Yuvraj to force a result on this pitch. Just going 3-3.5 rpo on Day 4 would've done the trick. But who knew 4 in-form batsmen in GG, RD, SRT and VVS would give us a 2 rpo crawlfest? That's not Dhoni's problem. The blame entirely lies on those 4 players. we could have got result in 68 overs possible today. Maybe, but given what's transpired in cricket the last couple of weeks...it would've still been a risk. It's not that hard to go 4 rpo anymore. Why jeopardise a match when the series is already in the bag? Bottomline: India had a shot at victory on Day 4 and their batsmen blew it. Link to comment

HouMac
well if we can have a run a ball yuvraj' date='then why not?[/quote'] Because the situation didn't require a Yuvraj. It's not like we needed to go 4+ rpo and set 'em a target. We had all day. 3-3.5 rpo would've done the trick. it was clear that all 4 bats were playing according to instructions. How do you know that? And the way Yuvraj batted yesterday, certainly didn't seem like he was instructed to continue with the crawlfest. all 4 cant that defensive naturally.certainly GG cant be,who is naturally aggressive n can force the play if needed GG was pretty defensive in the 1st innings. And the other 3 have a history of going into a shell in 2nd innings'. Of course, Dhoni couldn't have expected that to be an issue given the gigantic lead we had and the fact that we're already up 1-0 in the series. He would've expected us to play our natural game. GG, RD, SRT and VVS had other ideas though. This draw falls squarely on their shoulders. Link to comment

This draw falls squarely on their shoulders. we batted 50 overs on the 4th day.at 3-3.5 we would have got 175 max but with yuvraj at 4-4.5 we could have got 200-225.which one u would prefer?if he had failed we could always play tuk-tuk cricket n save the game.but we had to take the initiative. i'm not saying all were instructed ti do a crawlfest.but there was certainly a safety first approach GG was defensive in first innings bcoz the pitch was lot more dificult.it was swinging,n bouncing a lot.and the other 3 have only gone into their shell in the past only wen india was trying to save the game, not win it.e.g. chennai. King Tendulkar
To be honest the praise dhoni is getting as captain is quite frankly way OTT. As Sachin just said "Dhoni is a great captain but a great captain needs a great team" and "its been a collective effort" Look at ponting great team , wins a lot due to this and ponting great captain. Now players are not so good he now sucks as captain. India won loads of great games under him yet never got praise. Dhoni going through such a honeymoon period. He has done well as captain but he is not the reason we have been winning games. The reason we have been winning the games is due to brilliance of players. Link to comment
flamy
But darling, you forget Dhoni's exploits with a mediocre team in the IPL and a bunch of rookies in the T20 WC. That sets him and Warne apart from other pretenders. Link to comment
hitman1980
Don't know for how long these oldies like Sachin, dravid and Laxman will keep on playing ... These guys really spoil any chance of winning with their slow batting ... I am just fed up with watching these 3 guys in the middle order for such a long time ... We need to see new blood coming in place of these oldies ... I agree they have contributed a lot for Indian cricket .. But its the time to move on .... I still can't forget tht capetown test where these oldies let us down so badly and played like a total ass$%$# ... Link to comment
