I wouldn't call LA a "desi" city.[/quote'] cool, if I visit L.A, I'd stay in browntown :giggle: NYC is completely cosmopolitan - perhaps the most cosmopolitan place in the world rivaled only by London. Jackson Heights in Queens is completely desi. Yeah, I have heard lots about Queens. Havent been to many places to compare but here is one place I've visited In Canada, Toronto is quite multicultural. I think roughly about 50% of the population is born outside of Canada. The suburbs of Toronto have MASSIVE desi populations. You can feel the presence of the desi populations when in Malls, the desi seniors in bunches occupy the malls:--D Hundreds of desi banquet halls, restuarants, shops, and quite a few cricket grounds as well. * It is probably more liberal than the US for the minorities * Education wise: Free education until high school..I suppose it is the like that in quite a few places * University/ College Costs: manageable through loans but peanuts compared to the US schools Good opportunities for students for education * Health care in Ontario : quite a lot of it is covered Senior Life * Life for desi Seniors can be termed not that friendly basically for the weather. The winter is there for about 5 months. On the other hand there are quite a few provisions for the seniors...health care coverage and pension. Plus the desi seniors are able to meet at local community centres due to the massie desi population. But quite a few of the seniors feel trapped as back home, they would be free to go where ever they want and meet tons of people. Racism? There are very rare cases but on the whole a welcoming environment Food? Hundreds of desi restaurants to choose from. Weather? About 5 months of winter. Not that bad as one gets used to it. The top parts of the U.S are pretty much the same I suppose.

'tics, you would settle down well in B.C in fact most Punjabis would as this is like 2nd punjab here and very relaxed lifestyle. I wouldn't recommend Toronto to anyone Similarly, its like Gujarat in NJ, aeedissun and Jersey City but good for Gujjus, they have their home there good to know that someone have same opinion as me about toronto. I never enjoyed that city. Good to browse a bit take some pictures, and then bid good bye for good seriously. BC?? would pay a visit or two may be whenever i get bit free from work. Few friends stay..

College education, healthcare are among the most expensive things in US. For many, healthcare is through work benefit, but with job situation in the US, it is not a guarantee.

Hehe , I recall that famous line from you.. something like Toronto will make you a cabby or something like that. yeah! - Scientists are drivers, engineers sell gas, Accountants work at coffee shops Every Airline landing at Pearson has 30% new immigrations, out of that 20% from India who will search for the same North York side Aparment with a Super and Mgmt asking for the 6 month deposit of 6K, pick up the same newspaper with jobs they will never get and ultimately get an advice from usman bhaii neighbor to drive a cab - b4 u know it, you work 12 hrs a day and feed ur family and your education is useless I can't tell you how many similar cases are there - everyone is under the impression that their resume and experience will get them a job but all you end up is counseling and a free xerox machine and PC to distribute your resume to places who will simply trash it b4 u know ur kids are passing high school and ur a member of the community with the same samosa eating parties and u think back - why the fark did I leave my country - for this

One of them asked the white guy if he felt he was in a foreign country! There is a cultural assoc of each state's people of India, neighborhoods which can be divided on the same lines..One will not miss India here. Even the roads and drivers are very much Indian!

nikred Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 If you truly want to know what it means to live in Brown town, there's no parallel to NJ, especially the suburbs of Edison/MetroPark/Metachen etc.. There everything from the people manning the Wal-mart counters to your hair-dresser to the manager at the Bank of America is either Indian or Pakistani.. :giggle: I once went to the Swaminarayan temple in Edison.. I swear, I have not seen so many Indians in a temple even in India... New Jersey is a classic example of continental drift where a part of land got separated from Gujarat and sailed all the way to the Atlantic Ocean and collided into the US. This also explains why you find similar animal species that you find in India.:winky:
