fineleg
i won't be surprised if i get to hear some third class reporter exaggerating on bhajji's comments which were said in jest. this is not first time, more often than not, he utters these before a series. unless it has been exaggerated each and every time by reporters! More... Cricket: Bash boys ready to hit out 4:00AM Sunday Feb 22, 2009 By Dylan Cleaver Chasing small targets should not be an issue this time with big-hitting Jacob Oram and Jesse Ryder returning to the New Zealand side to play India in two Twenty20 internationals. Daniel Vettori was left mortified after New Zealand failed to chase down Australia's barely serviceable 150. A six off the final ball from Nathan McCullum left Vettori's side one run short and in the embarrassing situation of still having five wickets left. Ryder's combination at the top of the order with Brendon McCullum has worked well in the past and Oram can clear the fence in the later overs. His return comes with a caveat, however, he is unable to bowl. Ross Taylor, who injured his hamstring in last week's Twenty20 game against Australia, has been confirmed as fit to play. Bowler Thompson returns to the squad after making his national debut in the T20 against the West Indies in December. Glenn Turner, head of the selection panel, said Thompson had shown continuing good domestic form for Central Districts, including a four-wicket bag against Northern Districts. "Ewen comes in for Kyle Mills who is still recovering from injury to his Achilles tendon," said Turner. "He will give the side additional strength as a specialist new ball and swing bowler." There is no place in the side for Peter Fulton, whose one from eight balls against Australia was unhelpful. Brendon Diamanti, who stayed on in Australia once Mills was ruled out, also misses the cut, as does Wellington allrounder James Franklin. Black Caps Twenty20 squad Daniel Vettori ©, Neil Broom, Ian Butler, Grant Elliott, Martin Guptill, Brendon McCullum, Nathan McCullum, Iain O'Brien, Jacob Oram, Jesse Ryder, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Ewen Thompson. The two squads have assembled in Christchurch ahead of tomorrow's tour opening Twenty20 international and Black Caps coach Andy Moles says Wright has been heavily involved with their preparation, identifying the India's strengths and weaknesses. Moles is demanding more ruthlessness from his side as he feels they failed to capitalise on all their opportunities on the recent Australian tour. He says they have spoken about the need to take the game to their opponents whenever they get the chance. Moles has identified a couple of areas where his side may hold the upper hand in the limited overs matches. He says they have a batting line-up that can hurt anyone, with Brendon McCullum and Jesse Ryder heading what is quickly becoming a destructive line-up, and believes they can out-field the Indians. Jacob Oram is back in the squad after recovering from a calf injury and will play as a specialist batsman in the Twenty20 series, while Ross Taylor is expecting to be fit for tomorrow's match. Taylor has not played since the fifth and final one-dayer against Australia because of a hamstring strain. He says he is making a steady recovery and was able to sprint at around 95 per cent on Saturday, but will need to undergo a fitness test before getting the green light. Taylor rates India the world's leading team in all forms of cricket and is excited about the challenge of testing himself against the best. He believes his side's relative inexperience will be an advantage as a lot of their players are just going to go out on the field and express themselves. ----------------------------------------------------- Dhoni sounds a bit defensive in his press conference!
