England advance to Super Six stage in Women’s World Cup with India win England beat India by nine wickets at the North Sydney Oval to seal their place in the Super Six stage of the Women’s World Cup as Caroline Atkins and Claire Taylor hit 69 runs each. Sarah Taylor set the English on their way with 27 off 43 balls before she was caught by Thirush Kamini off Priyanka Roy, but Atkins and Taylor combined to carry England beyond the total with nine wickets to spare. Taylor was particularly impressive, racking up her total off just 65 balls while hitting nine fours and England’s solitary six. Holly Colvin was largely responsible for disposing of India as she bowled three for 22 off 10 overs. Mithali Raj shone for India, hitting nine boundaries on her way to 59 off 90 balls before she was caught by Lydia Greenway off Jenny Gunn. England are unbeaten in the tournament so far having beaten Sri Lanka by 100 runs on Saturday. Head coach Mark Lane said: “It was a much improved performance in all three disciplines today. “It was good to see Holly Colvin coming into her own and taking 22 for three. We were excellent in the field with Lydia Greenway taking three catches. “After a slow start with the bat, Caroline improved her scoring rate and ended up with 69 not out and was awarded the Player of the Match. “It was another blistering performance from Claire Taylor ending the game with a huge six.” In Group A, Australia beat South Africa by 61 runs while New Zealand defeated the West Indies by 56 runs. Laaloo
Why did we choose to bat again? It's clear we are better chasers than setting up a target. Making the same mistakes as the mens team. 1996 WC SF, 2001 Asia Cup, 2007 WC, 2008 Asia Cup. Link to comment
