He would maintain that pace and swing for a long spell .Incredible sight Waqar steaming in .Tony Greig used to say ''Waqar on his way ''.Yes he was on his way to destruction .

I guess you could say my criticism of fast bowling now is too harsh- but then again, if you had THAT as your first series like I did, then I guess you would be! The Lara one was years after when he wasn't as fast. I repeat, in the early 90s, he was the most destructive bowler ever seen. Please get some footage of that England series if you can.

Akram, Imran - now those were great bowlers. Waqar was not much better than a minnow basher and tailend slaughterer - and don't bother me showing his occasional videos of taking top class wickets - I have not said he was a poor bowler but always came up short against good batting line ups losing the plot when he started to get hammered at his full length and would be left with an alternate plan.

England had Gooch, Stewart and Smith in 1992 all rated top 10. He destroyed the likes of SA who were quality (in ODIs) and was deadly v WI at times in 1993, who were the best then. He was a brilliant bowler back then- at times he was more devastating than Wasim, who could be all over the place! Who cares whether he was a tailend basher- look how many times recently that tailend partnerships have changed matches in tests- great bowlers polish off tails quickly and he could do that. Any team today would die for Waqar of early 90s! Re: Ambrose- Waqar and Ambrose traded no.1 and no.2 spots in early 90s in tests regularly. I have noticed that Indian people rate Akram higher than Younis- fair do's over the course of their careers, but not early 90s where Waqar was deadly- although Wasim was pretty mean too around the wicket.
