Anil Kapoor bags role in American TV show 24 New York (PTI): After the huge success of Slumdog Millionaire, in which he acted as a game show host, actor Anil Kapoor is now gearing up for a different role in an American TV show 24. Kapoor, who won critical acclaim as a game show host in the multiple Oscar-winning film, will have a regular role as a Middle Eastern leader in the eighth season of the thriller, Variety magazine reported. The show will mark Kapoor's debut on American television. The actor has reportedly clinched the deal with ICM and is all set to star as a leader, who comes to the US for a peacekeeping mission. Kapoor played Prem Kumar, the host of Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, in Slumdog Millionaire.

Great.....1st it was Kal Penn (kumar) who played the middle eastern terrorist in season 6 and not its Anil Kapoor. Also Naveen Andrews plays an Iraqi terrorist in Lost. Only Sendil from heroes plays an indian Character. But even he is stereotyped. He plays both the science nerd and taxi driver. Unfortunately they killed off Kutner(Kal Penn) in House MD last weak so thats 1 indian Char we lost but we gained one with Anil Kapoor.

actually indians are becoming quite omnipresent these days. the last episode of "lie to me" revolved around the fate of south asian women, exploited in an illegal surrogate mother scam. prior to that, several indians have appeared on episodes of CSI, and who can forget the ubiquitous extra on star trek voyager. the tall indian dude who never had a line, but was always the default security personnel. furthermore, the chick who played jass in bend it like bekham made it to the cast of ER. having said that, its still ages before we notice an indian as a lead in a sitcom or a drama or even a movie. probably because we are not as large a percentage of the population over here. nonetheless, if anil kapoor has a recurring role on 24, i might actually watch that abomination of a show. finally what would you rather have? indians on television shows or top positions in the current administration? i d choose the later. for all our geniuses, there is only one indian professor who is the chairperson of his/her respective department at a university, and thats the dude who heads the electrical engineering department at drexel university (give me a good post doc and maybe we can fix that anomaly!) .

He is obviously a science nerd who cant talk to girls without getting drunk, have parents back in delhi who arranges for his marriage etc etc.. There was another short lived sitcom with that office chick who left (was Jims love interest in Season 3) had an Indian in the cast of 4 friends. Speaking of office, the Indian girl who plays the Indian girl is also the writer of the show and she is quiet talented. CSI has an Indian writer/producer. The daily show has Asif Mandvi(Senior brown correspondent).

not quite the lead, he is credited as "featuring" rather than as a member of regular cast. there are a massive number of writers for movies and sitcoms.

Thats SO not true. The head of my department is an Indian. I am pretty sure I have come across others. CMU Robotics Institute was founded and headed by an Indian.

Agree wtih Khota... Head of my University of Waterloo Elec and Comp Department is an Indian too.. and I was looking at his salary...freaking 500K an year......
