The Outsider Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Was walking around Lexington Avenue last evening filling up my dwindling Rice and green chilly supplies on the way back home from work and decided to buy some wine for dinner. There is a liquor store at the corner of 28th and Lexington which I've seen many times but never venture into because most of my liquor purchase is Scotch or Wine and this store never seemed to have a good enough appearance for my snooty soul to venture into. In I went straight to the wine section, picked up a Cabarnet and just decided to saunter around the store - and there it was, would you believe it a bottle of Old Monk lying on the shelf :omg: Now, I don't know about the newer generation but Old Monk was one of the staple drinks for me and my peers. Coupled with late night Biryanis and Parathas and Kababs and Ande Ki Bhurji it was heavenly stuff! I picked up the bottle, ran out of the store and caught a subway to Jackson Heights to get the best Biryani in the area to accompany my prize! And boy was the trip well worth it or what - one full Biryani and 5 drinks of Old Monk later I was feeling like a Roman king enjoying all the sins of life. Too bad my better half did not appreciate the mid week sojourn into a drunken stupor, but it was well worth it.:giggle:

Nahin yaar...I've been to many liquor stores and it's possible it is available more than I thought but certainly not most liquor stores. Loved Old Monk - there was another Goan one called Madam Rosa There is another one I bought from the same store. Had seen it but never tries before - a Nepalese rum, Khukri. My southie friend used to love rum and rasam !

I get by Bacardi in place of old monk. But my recent acquired taste of scotch..I don't I will drink anything else for quite some time. A Man's drink...
