They were 2 of the quickest bowlers of their era but there is no evidence to prove that they bowled 150 k to 156 k in many matches like Shoiab and Lee has done.

Akhtar and lee were special because they mantained pace for longer almost for 10-12 years ...

Many lean bowlers generate pace, because they are highly flexible, have a very good wrist action, good run up which is able to convert the momentum into the delivery etc. like Morkel, Holding, Harmison, Ambrose, Donald etc. But you are right, Zahid was talented but was unfortunate to get injured and after that did not look impressive.

It is even more impressive that they did it in test matches and also bowled quick when they were 32/33 yrs old. Someone like Tait is quick because he plays only in T20s. If he played test matches he may have gone down in pace.

This is what i mean by a fast bowling culture and hopefully it is developing in India atlast. Pacers are trying to bowl with effort as well as bowl well. Dudhat, Awana, Tyagi, Pawan Suyal, Anand Raj, Anwar Ali are some other bowlers ot look out for. Somebody was talking about a guy named Vohra as well.( or is it Vahora ? )

Not sure how old you are but If you can, lay your hands on tapes of Waqar and Donald bowling in international cricket, especially test matches, from the early to mid 90s, and watch them bowl. Alas they did not have speed guns those days but they were beasts of their own during those days, Waqar with his fuller length and Donald with his short of length quick bowling getting it to move either ways.

Not sure if Nechim regularly bowls 140k+ and I don't include Ishant because for last few years his quick delivery is 136k and he takes hardly any wickets. But even Ishant upping pace now but lacks skill. Skill and pace are key, no one cares about just pace. Only one guy in our team has pace and skill, capable of bowling swing at 145k.
