^ Speaking from the other side of the fence' date=' people who know hindi but pretend not to. Those are real lame too. I mean what is so embarrasing in speaking in your mother tongue if you are not in front of some Angrez.[/quote'] LOL, good one man Living in BC, all my pals are from Punjab but they remember to converse in Hindi with me and I farkin respect them for it even though I can grasp punjabi, there are abs no south Indians here (unlike TO ) who has a huge population of Tamils. I am comfortable both ways, not an issue of conversing and respect all

Don’t like nosey people – If I am going to tell you something about myself, its because I choose to, not because you want to learn more about me. And If you ask something about me and I choose to evade the question, you should not be upset because you must understand that I am under no obligation to share my privacy with you. Don’t like moody, eccentric people – This stems especially from having lived with so many room-mates. If you don’t like me, I am perfectly fine with that. At the least, be consistent with your hate for me, so I know what to expect from you. Don’t be an angel one-day and a devil the next. That makes my life VERY hard.I can easily share space and time with someone who absolutely hates me to the core, does not even want to speak with me but I find it VERY hard when someone acts all nice and warm one-day and downrightful hateful and rude the next. People who ***** about others behind their backs – If you want to criticize someone, do it in front of them, so that they have a chance to defend themselves. Don’t do it when they’re not around. Guys who cant take jokes, especially when its on them – People often confuse humor with actual opinion. You go to a dinner and pass a harmless comment on someone and all of a sudden, they get belligerent and all serious? For what? I didn’t actually mean what I said and I am also perfectly ok with you having a hearty laugh with me being the source of that humor. And in general, hypocrites. People are hypocritical about everything, which is again hard for me because I do not know what to expect from you. I absolutely LOVE people who are consistent with their behavior and attitudes, even if it means having negative attributes all the time.

I dont like it when all south Indians are referred to as Madrasis. Thats almost GW Bush level of ignorance and bone headedness. FFS, South India has 5 prosperous states and a national territory. I dont like it when Tamilians assume all south Indians understand Tamil I hate the concept of horoscope matching

Which maybe the case, but its just annoying painting everyone with one broad brush - somewhat like Americans calling people of China/Japan/SE Asia as "Asians". Its hard for someone to differentiate between Bengali/Oriya/Assamese too - doesnt mean we club them into one! Heck, most madrasis cant even speak or understand Hindi!! :giggle:

I can see it from your perspective, but in practice - it's definitely tough. I am sure even if we get a crash course, it wouldn't be easy Case in point, have you seen Sriram? he doesn't look like a south indian to me You look at Lurker who is from UP, but looks like a south indian

Hindi speakers automatically assuming all other Indians understand it. .
Yep - there are some who ask "Do you understand Hindi?" and then start talking which is appreciated. But there are others who just assume.
