I had once with Thai Airways. They just cancelled our ticket from chennai to bangkok (first leg on the way to San Francisco) and I had to fight with them to get us checked in. Second leg was with Cathay. Apparently our travel agent booked an extra leg as part of the onward journey from SF to chennai via bangkok. This leg wasn't in our itenary as we actually flew to Delhi via IAA when we went to India. Since we didn't take that flight from Bangkok to Chennai, they concluded we aren't returning either and hence cancelled the first leg of our return flight. They made us wait for over an hour and I was pissed just waiting that extra hour. Even though the flight wasn't full, they claimed it was. Thankfully I had the option of upgrading to business class (paying extra ofc) so I wasn't too worried, still it wasn't an experience one would want to go through. So, no more Thai Fracking airways for me!

AIR INDIA is the syttest airline I've ever been on. Never again, ever in my lifetime will I pay money to fly on that ****ing cheap ass airline again. The hostess' are ugly/rude, the interior is something reminiscent of the stone age, the food is bland; everything was just forgettable. Unfortunately, I haven't forgotten that experience, which was from K.L, Malaysia to Chennai, some 5 years ago. Amongst the best are Cathy Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Malaysian Airlines.

Err, if you dont like it, dont fly on it. I have flown on Air-India (as recently as 2 months ago) and the air hostess werent ugly or rude (they are not meant to be beautiful/sexy anyway. Thats a bloody airline, not a gentleman’s bar). The interiors were more than adequate. Its not as through you get plum colored leather upholstery, ambient lighting and sauna baths in other airlines. The food was quite good. I did not see even a single passenger outwardly angry or upset about it. Now, I understand, you feel its fashionable to bash something for the sake of bashing but I also sincerely hope you realize how silly and ridiculous you sound because of it.

what's up with the grumpiness M_M ? Air India might have been good to you but their track record when it comes to customer service is not great at all and I have heard this from many people... Jet airways has way better customer service

Jet airways won't be around for long though. Some are predicting it to be bankrupt by December.

I don't expect much from an airline (1) Make sure you don't bump me off the plane because your overbooking computer messed up. (2) Make sure you know what to do when there is an emergency. (3) Don't lose my luggage. Everything else, I can deal with. I don't need the flight attendant to smile and be nice to me. If you ran out of vegetarian meals - ain't no big deal - mistakes happen. I'll eat the bread and fruit. The only reason I detest air-travel is the rudeness of co-passengers towards people with kids. The same people who will say "hey, cute kids!" in the park turn into complete monsters when they board a plane. If a kid cries, but the parents are doing all they can to calm him/her, there is no reason to be discourteous to them. One woman told me "Some people shouldn't be traveling on a plane." I should've said "Oh, I agree!!," but the only thing that came to my mind then was, "Shut up, you ******* b*****!" So, I just ignored her. Now, parents who just let their kids do whatever and watch the in-flight movie - they need to be reined in a bit!

Well said. Does anyone go on a train or a bus expecting smily faced models to greet you and tuck you in at night? Then why the expectations for air travel alone? Well, if you’re going to say ‘I pay 10 time more money than I do, when traveling by train or bus, so I expect better service’. My answer to that would be ‘Its for a good reason you pay 10 times more money. You reach the destination 10 times faster…’ I am not in any suggesting that its perfectly ok for air-hostess to be rude or the service to be pathetic, but surely, don’t get too hung up on these. My only expectation as far as air-travel is concerned is very similar to CA’s – Don’t bump me out of the flight, start on time, reach destination on time, don’t lose my luggage and in the midst, give me to edible vegetarian food. End of story.

My Qantas flight from Melbourne to Sydney last Friday was delayed by an hour and a half because there was no PILOT...they had to call a standby...and they didn't even announce anything at the gate. They didn't even have enough staff to clean the tray tables! I missed my United Airlines connecting flight from Sydney to LAX because of Qantas' incompetence and United had to clean up the mess. United put me on standby for a flight to SF and connect to LAX from there. I reached SF, my luggage didn't reach so I ran to catch the connecting flight only to find it got canceled a minute before boarding started and were brusquely told to go to Customer Service to be put on a later flight, so was stuck in SF for a few more hours. Oh yeah and my luggage sat in Sydney for 2 days after I reached California.

Now, that’s a truly terrible travel experience.

What a non comparison, comparing something that happened 5 years ago to something that happened just recently. At that time of year, from that airport, the only connecting flight from K.L to Chennai was AIR INDIA. Time was of the essence. I don't know how much things have changed in 5 years, and I honestly don't care, but for an international airline, the experience was mediocre. And yes, if given the choice, I wouldn't fly on it again.

Called whom and why? You mean to reconfirm the return? Yea that would have been better. I didn't cause Cathay told us there is no need to reconfirm. So I assumed it applied to Thai as well. We didn't cancel anything. Just that our TA booked an extra leg and forgot to cancel it and it wasn't part of our itinerary or ticket.

I agree with that. I haven't had a single bad experience yet with Air India. The first time I flew with them, they had not refreshed their planes and were still flying the old Boeings(common screen in Economy etc) from 70s. The plane groaned and croaked but the journey was peaceful and the food amazing. The next time I flew with them, they had acquired brand new planes, the journey was as peaceful and the food still amazing. The only downer was the aunty air hostesses.
