Yes they were dropped for loss of form or other issues but were are called back immediately after ICL issue was settled.Bringing back Dravid just for 2 series because Indian youngsters cant play short pitch bowling is very embarassing.
so they were dropped coz of lack of form, now they are called back coz no youngster has able to perform consistently in the meantime.they arent Pak's 1st choice players as u put it.otherwise they wouldnt have been dropped in 1st place. n there is no harm in realising ur mistake n rectifying it.short ball is a problem n RD can help counter it,so they r bringing him back.Simple

Lord..i agree it's a prestigious tournament' date=' but calling Dravid for it really makes no sense if there are no plans to keep him for the WC 2011. There's a good month before the CT...let the BCCI get together a clinic and invite Indian batsmen who are excellent players of the CT, Tendulkar, Gavaskar, Dravid and let the work on the technique of the younger guys. This makes more sense then to invite someone to play in ODIs that have one bouncer allowed an over.[/quote'] dude there is no better way to teach them then to show them by doing it in the middle.agreed RD isnt in long term plans but if Veeru isnt there we need experience.CT is a tournament we cant afford to take lightly after t20 WC. n its not about one bouncer per over its about the mental effect a bouncer has no these youngsters.its more temperamental than technical issue

May be Dravid is given an oppurtunity to retire officialy from ODIs after this series. What do you think who willmake way for Dravid' date=' Raina or Rohit?[/quote'] Raina is the strongest candidate, although he has to seriously work on his problems with short ball.i would put Virat Kohli ahead of Rohit in the pecking order

err... what problem with short bowling ? Raina for all this talk about weakness against Short pitch bowling , is one of the best hooker/puller of the cricket ball when in full flow , only that he needs to be a little more selective , same for few other indian batsmen . technique required for T20s , ODIs and Tests are very different , cos in T20s you are under pressure to score of every ball & some times a very good bouncer directed at batsmen , which wud have been just left alone in a ODI or a Test Match forces a fault stroke in a T20 ..England & WI bowled well to us in T20WC , no doubts about that ...but din we see our batsmen handle the same WI bowler with ease in ODI series ? infact they scored heavily of short ball in the 2nd and 3rd ODI's .so , I wudnt be in a hurry to call our batsmen weak against short balls . as for Dravid in the ODI team , no thanks ..I wud drop Tendulkar as well ...cos i want to see these guys play tests for another 4 years , thats wer we need them the most ..not in ODI's

Rahul Dravid returns to the ODI team for Compaq cup and Champions Trophy Dravid returns to one-day squad Cricinfo staff August 16, 2009 Series/Tournaments: ICC Champions Trophy | Sri Lanka Tri-Series Teams: India Rahul Dravid has, as expected, made a return to India's ODI plans with his inclusion in the squad for the tri-series in Sri Lanka and the Champions Trophy next month. Dravid replaces Rohit Sharma, who managed 15 runs in three ODI innings in the West Indies and 43 runs in three innings against major opposition in the World Twenty20. The selectors didn't risk taking Virender Sehwag, who is yet to fully recover from his shoulder injury, to the Champions Trophy. He was not expected to make it to the Sri Lanka tri-series anyway. Dravid last played an ODI for India in October 2007, but his form in the second IPL season in South Africa - where the Champions Trophy will be held - and the vulnerability of India's younger middle-order batsmen in the recent World Twenty20 prompted the selectors to fall back on his experience and technique. Suresh Raina, who was out because of a hairline fracture of the thumb, also returns. Amit Mishra breaks into the ODI squad, replacing Pragyan Ojha as the back-up spinner to Harbhajan Singh, on the back of his impressive showings in the IPL and the Emerging Players Tournament in Australia. Dinesh Karthik, who came in for the West Indies ODIs as replacement for Sehwag, and Abhishek Nayar, who edged out Ravindra Jadeja, have retained their places. More to follow India one-day squad: Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni (capt/wk), Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Ashish Nehra, RP Singh, Amit Mishra, Dinesh Karthik, and Abhishek Nayar http://www.cricinfo.com/sltri09/content/current/story/419853.html

WAT R U TALKING?Raina is scared of short ball. bowl him one good bouncer n hes tentative for next 3-4 deliveries.he is a good hooker, not puller.even with that he cant judge the line of short pitched deliveries n ends up hooking them from outside off stump,a recipe for disaster
technique required for T20s , ODIs and Tests are very different , cos in T20s you are under pressure to score of every ball & some times a very good bouncer directed at batsmen , which wud have been just left alone in a ODI or a Test Match forces a fault stroke in a T20 ..England & WI bowled well to us in T20WC , no doubts about that ...but din we see our batsmen handle the same WI bowler with ease in ODI series ? infact they scored heavily of short ball in the 2nd and 3rd ODI's .so , I wudnt be in a hurry to call our batsmen weak against short balls .
even in T20 u can take time to settle down, its not as if u have to hit every ball, for example Afridi's recent innings against SL.so that cant be an excuse. & in WI ,there was no fidel edwards to exploit our weakness against short ball.even then we were bowled out for 188 in 2nd ODI n Rohit,Yusuf n Jadeja all looked vulnerable against short ball
as for Dravid in the ODI team , no thanks ..I wud drop Tendulkar as well ...cos i want to see these guys play tests for another 4 years , thats wer we need them the most ..not in ODI's
lol u cant have a team entirely of younsters.with Veeru not there,SRT has to open n RD will lend stabilty to MO along with Yuvi n MSD

ODI Team for CT & Compaq Cup Mumbai: India’s Champions Trophy aspirations received a jolt when it emerged that dashing opening batsman Virender Sehwag would not feature in the otherwise strong 15 member squad named for the 8 team extravaganza in South Africa next month. While Sehwag missed the cut due to fitness concerns, India’s batting was bolstered by the return of stalwart Rahul Dravid into Indian one-day team after a 2 year hiatus. Dravid, who is a regular part of India’s Test set-up, last played an ODI for India way back in the October of 2007 against Australia where he managed just 51 runs from 5 innings. Dravid’s re-induction seen as a result of India’s Twenty20 World Cup debacle in June this year where the young turks were seen struggling against the short ball. Meanwhile, as expected, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who off late has been selective when it comes to participation in one-dayers, too makes a comeback into the squad for the showpiece event scheduled for September. The Mumbai Maestro last played one-dayers for India in February during India’s tour of New Zealand. Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni would shere the willow wielding duties along with the above mentioned gladiators. Following impressive performances on the domestic circuit and then the IPL in South Africa, young Abhishek Nayar too gets a look in for the Champions Trophy at the expense of Rohit Sharma. Dinesh Karthick got the nod as the back-up wicket keeper in the tournament. In the absence of Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma and Ashish Nehra would be leading the Indian pace attack in the pacer friendly conditions of South Africa. They will be supported by prodigious RP Singh and Praveen Kumar. The spin department would be taken care off by ace offie Harbhajan Singh and Amit Mishra, with support from all-rounder Yusuf Pathan. Talented tweaker Pragyan Ojha unfortunately faces omission. Oh God ...hopeless people ...how can they have amit mishra instead of P.Ojha :((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:((:(( Bunch of hopeless selectors
