Gambo-Viru would not have opened even if they were available. Dhoni always goes with Sachin-Viru whenever Sachin is available.

You got that right. He wants to make an impression. But he doesn't have the percentage cricket to play a long innings. He could probably be a better finisher like he did for his state team and DD. Kohli is also not a regular opener. But he is in good form.

:(( dk seems to have earned the luv of alll and sundry including the selectors probably for the non-cricketing reasons, same reasons for which virat seems to suffer. my point to our cricket brotherhood is if u do not have viru or gambhir who would u want sachin to open with. with all due respect to dk, he is a decent player who can contribute 40 odd in middle overs . but i do not think he has the technique or game to be one of the top 7 seven batsman in the land , leave alone the opening slot which is an extremely impactful position. why woudl u not like to open with virat who was the highest run getter for india in the emerging player tournament while also being the man of the tournament.this was againt top sides and on australian pitches..if u have to bet on new openers why not on virat ..he was good against mendis and company in his maiden series..... dk sucks as an opener and not even a guy who would win u a match against lanka...do u guys really see him in the world cup line -up? it is just that tn players are the flavour of the season with mr srikanth around...
