veer Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 someone said.. use that old tactic.. if we bat first, save wickets and attack at the end... thats a good strategy.. given that we have SRT, RD, Gambo and dhoni at the top.. if we bat second, much will depend on SRT and Dravid.. how they deal with their bowlers.. another factor is gambo.. he has not played for long.. he could be rusty..
cowboysfan Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 We don't need 3 seamers in the first place. Instead of one seamer we can use Mishra who can be handy with bat. I don't trust Yousuf Pathan's bowling. He goes almost 8 an over these days. There will be serious problems in the middle overs. tell me the last odi we played without 3 seamers?.its not going to happen.
jf1gp_1 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 You are forgetting Dravid. Dravid can play support role but he cannot be the leading partner, lets not get into 200yrs ago he was our star batsman debate, can we rely on Dravid to chase 275-300 if he were to walk in at say 50/2 in 10 overs. My answer is i dont think so, Sachin still could Dravid most likely No.
cowboysfan Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 the only way we are restricting the pakis is with our "seamers"(who have forgotten how to seam and swing as well).pakis will negotiate bhajji and our part-timers easily.hope nehra and RP have a great day.Ishant has zero expectations from me.

jf1gp_1 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 i feel the other way Ishant if he gets some bounce should trouble most in the Pak line up
DomainK Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Forget the rest of the team. Tendulkar alone has more centuries and more runs than the entire Pakistani squad put together. That's just one player- already outdoing 11 of theirs, we will have 10 more playing from our side.
Celeste Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Pakistan suck against leggies. Piyush Chawla
TaNk Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Sachin Gambir Dravid Dhobi Yusaf Raina Kohli Bajji I Sharma P Kumar RP Singh

The Outsider Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Piyush Chawla I am talking about leggies not pie chuckers.
cowboysfan Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Pakistan suck against leggies. hmm.i still dont see them picking mishra.if we had irfan then we could potentially have gone in with 2 frontline spinners.20 overs of powerplay means we need 3 seamers, although i have to say our seamers bowl absolute tripe during powerplays .

Harbhajan can do a good enough job in the powerplays.
Ram Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 One thing’s for sure, there is no way we’re going into the match with just two seamers. MSD vehemently insists that playing just two specialist seamers is like going on a suicide mission, especially if one of them gets hit early in the power-play overs. In fact, I think we have not played a single ODI under his captaincy where we have gone into the match with just 2 seamers. And that’s quite a shame because Amit Mishra seems such a mouth-watering prospect.
ViruRulez Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 I think it was a bit of a wrong squad we picked up for Champions Trophy at the first place. But at the same time, nobody expected Yuvi's injuries or Gauti's match fit etc. Irfan should have been picked instead of any of these three - Karthik, Nayar, PK or Kohli and the team would have been a lot more stable. In the present squad there is not much experimenting we can do. SRT, Dhoni, Raina, Gauti (if match fit), Dravid, Bhajji and Raina are a must from the 15 member squad and rest 4 can be decided by Dhoni. The rest 4 positions are important but there is hardly much difference amongst the contenders.
ViruRulez Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Sachin Gambir Dravid Dhobi Yusaf Raina Kohli Bajji I Sharma P Kumar RP Singh Praveen would be biggest gamble if included in the playing 11. I still don't remember when he last bowled his full quota of 10 overs. I dont want him to be taken just to bowl 3-4 overs. Nayar is a lot better if we need only a few overs.
zubinpepsi Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 im surprised why everyone is picking Ishant.. hes been the worst bowler recently..
jf1gp_1 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 How about opening with a spinner ? Kumble showed the way in IPL 2
Sachinism Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Why do teams insist thinking conventionally? Try something different that the opposition aren't ready for, that they haven't prepared for. Nowadays so much importance is given to pre-match preparation and analysing the opposition, do something they wouldn't have thought about
diegovegaz Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 gambhir sachin dravid raina dhoni nayar yusuf bhajji mishra ishant/rpsingh nehra the good spinners like vettori, botha, vdmerwe have done exceptionally well so mishra, a genuine wicket taking option, must be in the side this leaves me with no other option than to go with 2 seamers, and hope dhoni bowls nayar
