Why the hell are people blaming Dravid ?

I can't hear you talking about the splendid knocks SRT and MSD played' date=' VVVS?[/quote'] Dhoni has done it so many times in recent times to win the match for us. Tendulkar just won a match last time. There are going to be failures. Whoever gets going to has to capitalize on it and turn into a match winning one. That is how we got to no.1 spot. Not by playing 90s style cricket where we plod around at one end and expect the player at the other end to take complete responsibility. 76 in 103 balls which means others have to score 227 in 197 balls. Almost like 6.87 runs per over.

Only shane's post seem to be decent in this thread. Dravid was the reason we got so far. had he gotten out when Kohli and he were batting. Our team would have fallen from there on. Atleast with Dravid on other end, Raina had license to go for few hits which he did and all of a sudden Raina looked the danger man for pakistan. These small things people don't notice.

How much risk was involved in Raina's shots. did you see? Imagine Raina also plays like Dravid. He could also score a 75 in 100 balls. But what is the use. He can also say.. i played anchor role.

vvvs, unlike majority of the sh!theads we have on this board, i have always rated your opinion fairly highly, coz there is generally an unbiased view, 90's style ??? i don't get, tell me one player who stuck till the end to make it count?

Whether you accept it or not but Dravid was a lot rusty today .. he was not executing any proper shots and he did not play a run a ball which was needed out of any batsman today .. and he was also responsible for the Gauti run out .. his running between the wickets was also pathetic.. we are speaking about a highly experienced batsman like Dravid and not about a newbie and so a lot more was expected of him.. I bet Sachin would have never let his strike rate drop in chasing a total of 300+ under lights
When Drav had Gambhir and Raina batting with him it was looking good, and that is exactly how he is supposed to play anchor and let other play their shots. Had GG and Raina stayed for about 20 balls more each, well who knows... He wasnt resp for GGs run out, GG didnt even make a proper effort to get back in- although overall there were too many mix ups with his batting partner I agree. The other thing of course is that he HAD to put a bigger price on his own wicket and take less risks as wkts fell at the other end because the likes of YKP and even Bhajj can score a brisk 30, but no one after Raina could HANG in there

Last time when we chased Paksitan's 300 we won it in 42 overs. Raina and Sehwag didn't stop. They just bulldozed them into submission. Next man Yuvi walked in. He didn't stop either. You have to sustain momentum. There should be no lull periods while chasing 300 plus targets.
Those were different conditions vvvs, it was on a Flat Patta like Paki wicket, Dravid chased 326 against the WI, with a similar approach to what he had, but that day he got the support of others around him.

people always think.... oh its Dravid.... he is licensed to make 23 from 100 balls...even if it's ODI... he's playing "sheet anchor" .....why can't both batsmen play with equal aggression which brings the fear to the bowlers and they start to make mistakes?? where did this 90s mentality creep in???? 1 player holds the fort by blocking every ball and raising the RR...while few other players hit...and if they perish while hitting... the one guy blocking every ball can still just stand there till the last tail ender arrives

When you chasing 300+ You can't expect to have a scoreline of 150 needed of 200 balls. The margin always narrow down at the last few 30-40 runs... and had raina not gotten out we would have easily been at that position. Every team while approaching the required runrate, tryes to make sure that they have wickets in tact and atleast one batsman is sticking on. Dravid has done that for INdia in the past and he did that today. Just OTT reaction from people here.

C'mon this was not a flat patta wicket by any measure...

48 dot balls.. It's not like hes going to play a big knock or anything. Why not bring in some young guy in and let him develop and let him gain some experience? Dravid is only good for saving wickets since he cant accelerate right. It'll be a rare site to see him with a match winning knock at this point, so why not bring some young gunner in besides The wall.

vvvs, i perfectly agree Dravid'd Running between the wickets sucked balls today, he was out of place with these young turks around him, but there was a point in the match Both when Gambhir and Dravid, Raina and Dravid wee at the crease, where we looked fairly comfortable in the chase, he held up one end similar to what Malik did earlier in his innings, but unfortunately was run out by Bhajji. O come on man, the running sucked, but his innings would have been more fruitful had he got support from the other lower middle order batsmen.

Sadly the more agressive a batsman is and the more shots a batsman goes for the more likely he is to get out- WHAT is the point if wickets keep falling in pursuit of runs- there HAS to be an anchor type player What is true is that Drav can do this quicker- like MSD does and SRT did vs Lanks. Like Malik did and Younis today- accumulate at a good rate. To his credit dravid did do that in one the last few ODIs he played his overall SR was a good one. Today though wkts kept falling at the other end he had to reign in more so than usual

To sum it all up, we didnt lose the match because of Dravid. But its not helping the cause when you go for 48 dot balls while chasing 300..I understand we're losing wickets, etc but at one point of the game you stop being a wingman and take the anchor role and start attacking them. Hes just notorious for these thak thaks hence some of us are blaming him.
