Always a Bridesmaid never the Bride

Recommended Posts

It scared the life out of Him, leaving Him pale and trembling - the mirror He had been trying to communicate with for the last 3 years burst out in a spontaneous song from the early part of the last century,

Why am I always a bridesmaid Never the blushing bride? Ding! Dong! Wedding bells Always ring for other gals. But one fine day – Please let it be soon – I shall wake up in the morning On my own honeymoon.
And He thought the honeymoon was finally here as He put aside the comb on the dressing table with trembling hands and picked up the ringing phone. He didn't like what He heard and tears flooded His eyes yet again as Iona Chappell told Him that Rikki had filed for a divorce, was remarrying, and wanted Him to be the bridesmaid yet again. Mumbling a faint, "Yes", He sat down in solitude. He glanced down at His body and harked back on His young days when He was called the best debutante on the scene. Not that He fell to the various trappings and vices which can accompany a successful social debut. He had continued to charm, captivate, dance, and laugh for 20 years, all without a social blemish. He had been bridesmaid for so many brides - Gracie Gooch, Laura, Inaya-ul-Haq, Diana Hayden, Radhika Dravid, Jackie, Rikki, Kumari, Shivani, and a lot of other Mahilas. Even Jeanne-Paulie got engaged recently and He had gone through a few sleepless nights thinking of ways how He could say no to be the bridesmaid there if asked. But now this - Rikki and Iona were old friends and He certainly couldn't back out of this one. So, yet again, He braced Himself for the occasion and let out a wistful sigh - not again!
