Selectors name unchanged squad for rest of the series November 03, 2009 13:04 IST Despite the 24-run loss against Australia in the fourth One-Day International at Mohali on Monday, the Indian selectors decided to retain the 15-member Indian squad for the remaining three games of the seven-match series. The Indian youngsters came in for a lot of flak following the defeat in Mohali after India were shot out for 226 chasing 250 on a good batting wicket. Suresh Raina (17), Ravindra Jadeja (7) and Virat Kohli all had opportunities to prove themselves but were found wanting against a resilient Australian bowling attack. But the selectors decided to continue with the trio, who also had received support from captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni , following the loss in Mohali, which levelled the seven match series 2-2. "Raina got out to a beautiful delivery while Ravindra Jadeja was run out after a mix up. I would say they have not got much opportunity to bat at that slot and it is not easy to bat at number six or seven, especially when you are chasing. You always bat according to the platform you get. Sometimes you need to accelerate or get a partnership going and look to score whatever runs are needed. They will learn from their mistakes and each and every batsman does that. I am sure with time they will improve and they have improved," Dhoni had said. With Gautam Gambhir expected to be fit for the fifth ODI in Hyderabad on Thursday, the selectors also decided to release Dinesh Karthik for Tamil Nadu's Ranji Trophy match against Railways, beginning at New Delhi on Tuesday. He was called up to the Indian squad in Mohali as a cover for Virender Sehwag and Gambhir, who both suffered minor injuries during the third ODI in New Delhi.
davidcooper Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 what a shame, so kohli's political connections keep him in the side
vvvslaxman Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Dhoni backs them. Hope they come good for him.
saneindian Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 what a shame, so kohli's political connections keep him in the side No, its the 100s he has piled up for India A and in domestic one dayers that keeps him there.
davidcooper Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 what a shame' date= so kohli's political connections keep him in the side No, its the 100s he has piled up for India A and in domestic one dayers that keeps him there. so he's a FTB?

punjabi_khota Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 so he's a FTB? I heard he had an excellent emerging players tournament in Oz..B-> highest scorer scoring 400 runs
graphic23 Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 Really disappointed that Ojha didn't get a chance and we're sticking with an out-of-form Harbhajan. :(( Not even Mishra is being given a chance.
Lord Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 would have liked too see Irfan.Jadeja is bowling well but is a terrible no.7.we need a better option
SachDan Posted November 4, 2009 Author Posted November 4, 2009 would have liked too see Irfan.Jadeja is bowling well but is a terrible no.7.we need a better option What has Irfan done to merit a selection? If I'm not mistaken, his last competitive match was in the T20 world cup.
Lord Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 What has Irfan done to merit a selection? If I'm not mistaken' date=' his last competitive match was in the T20 world cup.[/quote'] yeah but u have to go for wat u need.Jadeja is looking clueless at 7 while we know Irfan can tonk it n play sensibly too.he can aso replace Ishant as our 3rd pacer
youngindia Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 the stupidity of the selectors may cost us this series. can't they figure out that the chances of kohli and jadeja succeeding against the aussies were slim? or is it that they are clueless about maturity and experience? everytime a senior player misses out, its being exposed badly. there is no need for them when there were options like rohit and uthappa available. they have scored fifties vs aussies before and will have more confidence. now rohit and uthappa will have to wait for the bp 11 match and by the time the series is over. this is a man made disaster and the selectors will have to take the responsibility for this blatant mistake.
The Dark Horse Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 Why dont they select the team for the whole series(7 ODIs)? As if they are going to make any changes:giggle:

They've had their enough share of chances and time to look into some others like Dhawan and Vijay.
The Dark Horse Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 Guys like Tyagi and Mishra should also be relieved for Ranji duty... The whole world knows that they're going to warm the bench for the rest of the series:giggle:
youngindia Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 They've had their enough share of chances and time to look into some others like Dhawan and Vijay. their talent for international cricket is not in question. only when they come of age. so what "share of chances" are you talkin about? they just have to be backed for a long run. the fact is immature people are not goin to perform like the seniors. they have a lot to learn. the selectors need to accept that. but they are clueless and hence moving around in musical chairs.
The Outsider Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 so what "share of chances" are you talkin about? they just have to be backed for a long run. Do you see the irony of your post when you are talking about giving a long run to Sharma and Flathappa, both of whom played 40 ODIs each, and are asking for the heads of Kohli and Jadeja?
