The kind of tracks India produces for ODIs, you are just as good having bowling machines in your side. Everyone is going to get hammered except a couple of spinners, maybe. It'll all come down to the batting strengths of the sides.

This is the exact team composition.. The one mentioned in the first post does not match the CI squad announcement MS Dhoni (capt/wk), Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel, Sudeep Tyagi, Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra. Veeru and Yuvi in as expected. And hats off to the selectors for selecting Tyagi. Munaf also deserved to get a chance and hope he bowls with aggression this time. He might make an entry into the Indian team for a long time if he bowls with aggression and pace. This is his golden chance and hope he utilizes it well. Tyagi deserved a chance and hope he does not fumble in the international arena. Also good to see Jadeja in the squad. It seems selectors have read my posts on ICF. I have told almost this exact squad for the last few weeks. :P

You mean the bowling which Gayle single handedly raped and a bowling which was defied by Anderson and Monty Panesar? bowling against which India simply toyed with during the last tour? A bowling against which Steyn made 76 runs? Dude get real. they are not that great. They have been inconsistent over the last couple of years.

I am disappointed' date=' but will not support Aus. At the same time, I will not feel sorry if India loses, even badly. [/quote'] Nah I'll be looking forward to it. Dravid's been the most fit person, ever, in the Indian team. Its guys like Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvi that keep taking breaks. And he's isn't playing bad at all either since he was called back, saved us from an embarrassing defeat vs Pakistan. But still I can understand if the selectors find it okay to drop him for ODI's (really is very insulting to the man though, but I know he's one of the top batsmen this country has ever produced) - But Ishant's stay and Prasad's termination is what tipped me over, still I wouldn't have minded that much if Ishant was also terminated along with Prasad but I'm so sure now Dhoni or somebody in the selectors group is completely gay for him. It'll bring me joy to see this Indian team get crushed by the Aussies, so the selectors can go cry in a corner :finger:

dravid is asked to come when things are tough ... and he did much better job than dhoni's, kohli's and all .. but again when it comes to flat batting pitches of india , they drop him .. wtf .. reason they always give is he cant score quick .. this type of bias is just not on .. feck u selectors and all involved :finger:

"Selecting rookies for a Aus series, we will get drubbed 6-1/7-0 like the English recently. Select rookies for a series against BD, Eng or Pak." We had the legends Dravid and Ganguly against Australia laying at home in 2007, lost 4-2. We left them out of the team went to Aus and thumped the aussies in CB series with rpokies like Uthappa, GG, PK, Ishant. In fact a number of our rookies be it Yuvraj, Ishant, Bhajji, Mishra, PK etc who played against Aussies during their intial few months in team India, have done spectacularly against them.

Don't ask, don't tell A senior player has been given reason to feel slighted, while youngsters have been made to feel less sure of their aptitude. vision and transparency are conspicuous by their absence Sidharth Monga The secrecy with which the Indian board works sometimes has the air of an undercover nuclear project to it, but the muddled thinking suggests that the plans, if any at all, have long been mislaid. Rahul Dravid, a proven performer in ODIs despite the image he bears of being a misfit in the format, with close to 11,000 runs and 350 caps, and physically fit to play the energy game, would have expected to be selected despite being 36. Wrong. He was selected for the Champions Trophy at a time when the selectors thought the younger stars were not good enough, or experienced enough, to face quality fast bowling in testing conditions. On the surface - a conjecture because nobody really knows - it seemed age was not a criterion, form and fitness were. Moreover, Dravid would mentor the youngsters to ensure a smooth transition. So far, so good. In the six matches he got, Dravid brought to the middle order the stability that was missing, opened the innings once, and scored 180 in five innings. Nothing spectacular, but the question is, did he do the job given to him? He wouldn't be able to tell you because he didn't know what was expected of him. Then he was dropped when it came to playing on the batting beauties in India. The second question: Are the Rohit Sharmas and Virat Kohlis so inept that they can't be trusted to fight through one hint of adversity, but at the same time so good on batting tracks that they suddenly again become the future of Indian cricket? How much do they need to be pampered? Thursday's decision has given a senior player reason to feel slighted, while the youngsters have been made to feel less sure of their aptitude. Vision and transparency are conspicuous by their absence. Neither has Dravid been given time to provide solutions to the issues that existed - and they did and do exist - nor have the youngsters become better batsmen. Two important tournaments have amounted to zilch, if not negative. Was the selectors' thinking actually so short term, as to bring Dravid back just for the Champions Trophy? Are they now suddenly thinking as far ahead as the World Cup on the subcontinent in 2011? Will Dravid come back when India travel to South Africa next year? Will he come back if Suresh Raina gets out to a bouncer again, as he did to one from Ashok Dinda in the final of the Challenger Trophy? Oh for simple answers. But the Indian selectors, unlike their counterparts in the rest of the world, are not allowed to make clear their rationale. If they always had the World Cup on their minds, couldn't India have punted on the bright youngsters in a limited-overs tournament? Will their Test careers too begin like this? The first few matches on placid tracks, then dropped in favour of a better technician when India travel abroad, and back again for flat pitches? Are we moving into an age of separate teams for home and away matches? Again, no answers. Those deciding the fate of players, held accountable by the millions, are seemingly not accountable to anybody - not the public, not the players All it takes is a press conference - every international team has one, especially when four international players are dropped in one go (and spare a thought for the two coaches who had their jobs terminated on Thursday without the courtesy of a phone call or even an SMS). But apparently the BCCI doesn't think the selectors are smart enough or responsible enough to shed light on the decisions they make. Those deciding the fate of players held accountable by millions are seemingly not accountable to anybody - not the public, not the players. To their credit, this selection committee hasn't been implicated in planting malicious stories or convoluted conspiracy theories in the press, except for one occasion when one unnamed worthy spoke about MS Dhoni's alleged support for RP Singh. There's enough juicy material here, though, for an anonymous selector, or a source close to him, to resume the time-honoured tradition of alluding to a rift between Dhoni and Dravid, the kind we once read of as existing between Dravid and Sourav Ganguly. If only there was a press conference to explain what they thought when they brought Dravid back and then dropped him - because otherwise they are just too thoughtless to make sense of.

Cant agree with the above more, bit of explanation to go with the selections and Dravids non seleciton would have been welcome In hidnsight perhaps they should not have taken him to the CT, they cant keep chopping and changing for every series depending on where its played

I think most posters are over reacting in this thread over Dravid being dropped.. bringing back Dravid when two of the main batsmen were injured seemed opportunistic but frankly speaking everybody knew that Dravid had to be dropped after the return of Yuvi and Veeru.. Dravid was to be dropped and everybody knew it. But it just seems a bit unfair to include him just to make up for the weakening of batting and then to drop him when things went back to normal. But Dravid had to dropped and that is a fact. You cannot keep Dravid out of the playing XI if he is in the fifteen member squad. So, it is difficult to retain him in the 15 member squad. His position in the 11 member squad is not justified after the return of Veeru and Yuvi but his position in the 15 member squad is justified though it would sound even more unfair.

not really,Kohli is our future,RD is not.RD wouldnt add anything to the team, besides that Kohli is an excellent fielder n could be our 12th man

no bcoz Sachin plays lot more aggresively,is a better ODI player, runs better b/w the wickets n fields well

Kohli can be kept out of the playing XI or can be 12th man without any problem but Dhoni cannot keep Dravid as the 12th man or keep him outside the playing XI due to his seniority. So, Dravid in the 15 member squad means that he HAS to be in the playing XI irrespective of his performance or SR but the same logic does not apply to Kohli or Jadeja. They can be kicked out of the playing XI anytime they fail to perform but Dravid cannot face the same thing. :hatsoff:
Can u apply the same logic to Sachin why single out Dravid
Sachin still bats at a SR of near 100 even in ODIs and so the same logic does not apply to Sachin. If Dravid also starts playing at SR of 100 for 10 games continuously I am sure he would be in the side consistently too. :hatsoff:

This was bound to happen. I thought selectors picked Dravid in a bid to give him a farewell tournament, not to be I suppose. Picking him was always going to raise an eyebrows or two, when you have overlooked him for 2 consecutive years. Dropping him when he was scoring runs at a fair rate is not justifiable and the author raised a very good point about the Rohit's, Virat's caliber on seaming tracks. Why are selectors pampering them by picking them only on tracks that would make the bowling captain sweat even when the target is above 350. The young ones have to be picked on pitches where they can be assessed on their quality of handling seam and swing movement not on the pitches where scoring runs means nothing but just a mere formality. RD was hard done here. BCCI strikes twice in a span of 2 days after failing to show their incompetency for quite a while now. They are truly back in the business of incompetency now! They got me little worried there for a while...

If we go back to the thread where we discussed about Dravid's recall we exactly feared for this to happen. Some of us knew it was a very bad idea. But we all thought it was a farewell series for Dravid. But he hasn't announced his retirement yet. He should have done before the team was announced.

no bcoz Sachin plays lot more aggresively' date='is a better ODI player, runs better b/w the wickets n fields well[/quote'] pathetic reason, So Dravid doesn't have a slot just because he cant score quickly in a team where all others are power hitters, who can on their day easily make 350 and also can fold up for 150 Perhaps the effect of the 20-20 masala i suppose for your info, this is an ODI series where a team needs to play 50 overs and not everytime teams are going to make 300+

The reason why team India nowadays can hit yet not fold easily at 150 is because we have too many hitters Veeru Yuvi SRT Gauti Dhoni Raina All these are some of the best batsmen and power hitters in the game. So, it is nearly impossible that all of them fail simultaneously. And even if a couple of them play their innings then we are almost surely looking at a 280-300 or 300+ total. And one of the main reasons Dravid cannot be in the playing XI is because he cannot be placed at no. 7 while Kohli/Jadeja/anybody else can be placed at no. 7 without any problem.. the first six batsmen of team India are too strong to be hassled with as they are the main reasons for our success in the last few years
