Andy
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has trashed the former Australian Captain Ian Chappell’s suggestion on the scheduling of India-Australia ODI series, saying the board is not bothered about personal opinions. Former Australian Captain Ian Chappell has called the forth-coming India-Australia 7-ODI series ‘ridiculous’ and ‘a money making exercise’. It is also indicated by sources within the BCCI that they did not need an ‘ill advice’ to run Indian cricket. The former Aussie great who's a cricket commentator and expert is unhappy with the timing and scheduling of the series as a whole and has termed it more a money making affair than a big cricket rivalry. Ian, like his brother Greg is famous for his verbal barrage and had recently even rated Australian captain Rickey Ponting ahead of Sachin Tendulkar in international cricket. Former Australian batsman Dean Jones is of the opinion that India should have rather played a tri-series with Australia that a 7-ODI bilateral series. Itinerary of India-Australia series The first ODI will be a day game which will take place on Sunday, the 25th of October in Vadodara. The action then moves to Nagpur where the 2nd One-dayer will be a day and night game on the 28th of October. The 3rd One-dayer will be played at the Feroze Shah Kotla Ground in Delhi on the 31st of October. The two teams then move further north to Mohali for the 4th ODI. ========================================================== http://www.timesnow.tv/BCCI-trashes-Ian-Chappel/videoshow/4330022.cms Link to comment
Sachinism
I agree it is a money making exercise. No doubt, but don't place the blame fully on BCCI, if Aussies wanted to play less matches, I'm sure they could have had their say. Or did they get bullied again? Link to comment
jf1gp_1
India-Australia 7-ODI series ‘ridiculous’ and ‘a money making exercise’. yup he got it right thanks for stating the obvious but both boards are equally to be blamed Link to comment
ViruRulez
Though the timing is not that good but I dont think Chappel should be concerned about the timing.. he is a commentator and he should do that.. he can say about timing but "money making exercise" is surely a harsh phrase to use. Anyways all IPL teams are out and so it does not make much difference. They will get well enough rest before the series as today was the last match. Link to comment
SachDan
tbh 7 ODI matches is way too many to keep the interest going. Link to comment
cowboysfan
hmmmm, the aussies just played a 7 match series against the hapless pommies,Chappell will be well served to "attack" the australian board first Link to comment

goose
It's a fair point. I'm not in favor of isolated bilateral one-day series - they should always accompany tests. Link to comment
Celeste
The most ridicolous part of this series is that all matches are played at different venues. After every game, players will be rushing to catch a bus or plane to go to different city. The travelling will drain out players more than matches. Link to comment
Riley's Girl
This is the second "money making exercise" Oz has gotten involved in recently. Link to comment

Desi Cartman
How many ODIs were touring teams playing in Australia till a year ago :hmmm: even now they are supposed to play 5 ODIs and 2 T20s ... Link to comment

Australian tour use to be bloody almost 2-3 months long. Wasn't that money making scheme then ? Link to comment

Easy man, don't make such harsh comments. Please show sympathy to the poor neighbours, as their team have to travel outside Pakistan for their home games.:(( Link to comment
Chandan
It's a fair point. I'm not in favor of isolated bilateral one-day series - they should always accompany tests. Goose, This ODI series is a part of the entire series that Australia had to play in India. They have split it up and last year they played 4 tests in the first leg of the series and this year they are playing the ODIs in the final leg of the series. Tell me how many ODIs did Australia play last year with the 4 tests? But 7 ODIs are too many. They are surely going to kill spectators interest sooner than later and it is certainly 'ridiculous' as Ian Chappell mentioned but why blame just BCCI? Each and every board is neck deep in this money making exercise. Doesn't mean that BCCI should not be cricised either. I had heard a lot of criticism for Eng-Aus 7 ODI series. So it is natural that Ind-Aus 7 ODI series will criticised too. And the travel part is equally relevent. It'll really drain the players off ahead of the test series. But then, 7 ODIs can't be played at one venue especially when states wait for years to stage an international match. What is the solution? I say scrap the ODIs to maximum 5 under any circumstances, in numbers. Or else wait merrily for the death of this golden goose. Link to comment
Dinx - the Jinx
Agreed that 7 ODIs are too many. But Ian Chappal blaming BCCI for this is something to be :haha::haha::haha: at... Until 2008, Aussies were playing their tri-series, with each team playing 4 matches against each other before going to the finals.. In the long history of ODI cricket, has there ever been a tournament where 12 matches were required to eliminate 1 team from a pool of 3 teams??? If that wasnt a money making exercise, then what is? During the late 80s and a big part of the 90s, Australia were a wealthy cricketing nation even ahead of India.. they were raking in money by playing all these useless tri series.. Where was Chappel when all that happened in Australia.. Many a times the third team in the tournament will be a very weak team so that Australia is ensured a safe passage to the final (although the teams of the 90s never needed such favors to go through) and won a very high percentage of those finals.. Whenever they had a team from the sub continent in the tournament, they tried to bring in another team from the sub continent.. So if India was touring for a test series, then they will get either pakistan or slanka to be the 3rd team in the tri series.. so that even neutral games get a fair share of audience thanks to our expat crowd. And the entire tournament will run for sucha painfully long duration, that so most ppl will even forget what happened in the first match by the time we get to the finals.. And games were distributed to all venues across the length and breadth of Oz land, so no point blaming BCCI for scheduling games across Indian cities... So why is Mr. Chappel waking up now and creating this buzz? Hasn't his family got enough stick from the Indian public already? He wants more??? Link to comment
99.94
5 match series would have been great. Seven is overkill Link to comment
Dinx - the Jinx
^^^ Ausssies have never spent more tha n 2 months in India in a stretch.. Thats one of the reasons those home sick players want to break the series into test series and odi series and play at different times. Whereas teams travelling to Australia have to endure a full long tour of 3 to 3.5 months, with 3-5 tests, side games and an useless tri series Link to comment
Dinx - the Jinx
my question is - has any other team touring teams ever complained about this? atleast from an Indian stand point, I have always heard our players and boards saying series downunder are a challenging experience. they never complained about it.
