I agree with everthing you posted to be honest' date=' apart from the bit I highlighted in bold, as I feel you went a bit OTT there![/quote'] Anything we say about Nehra is OTT, according to you :reddy: :--D

At last people are starting to look seriously at issues such as fitness, health and diet. I have been like a broken record the last few months repeating endlessly that until India start taking these issues seriously then will always remain also-rans in fielding and athleticism. The fact is these cricketers get PAID to both play sport and keep fit, it what all international sportsmen/women do without question. The lazy ass approach of just playing cricket and doing nothig more does not cut it any more. These players get paid huge salaries and if they have not got that discipline then they should not accept all the endorsements and sponsorships that come with it. Its a fact that if you report overweight at a number of European football clubs after a short break like xmas you are fined and told to change your ways. The same should be done with India's fatties - shape up or ship out.

There is no doubt that YS has been a very important part of our ODI unit. But he needs to be dropped for a few months and told to work on his fitness seriously. Just focus on that, and then come back to the team.

Yuvi has had a bad few months yes. But its amazing how quickly everyone forgets his total brilliance for quite a few years. Everyone is all over him. He is a class act and a real match winner in limited overs cricket. He is a champ and will be back to shut evryone up.
What people dont understand is that a drop from the team is most of the time very good for a good cricketer. He becomes hungry for succcess and always comes back strongly. We dont want to be like our neighbours who perssit with some players becuase they make a rare score against India. That results in indiscipline and players never improve No one denies UV has the talent.

Case in point: GG The fecker is so hungry that he does not come off the field if he does not score over 50 (or at times 100 or at times batting for 645 minutes) :hatsoff:

I dont think people would mind so Much if it were just loss of form because he has been so good for us. But its attitude problems that bring about such relatively quick weight gain and that -as The Realist pts out for a pro sportsman - is inexcusable

This is the time when Yuvraj should be at the absolute top of his game and should be able to score and turn matches around against the best of opposition in the toughest of conditions. He is at the age where batsmen are close to their peaks and has 10 years of international experience. India should be able to bank on him to deliver a master class performance in the world cup, the likes Tendulkar put in '96 and '03 or Dravid in '99. How many die hard Yuvraj supporters would take up a bet on that? Instead, we are seeing a batsman who has stagnated and even regressed over the past few months. He has visibly put on weight and the fall in his fielding standards is something even a blind man can see. The only bright spot has been an improved bowling performance. But point these things out and you get called out for regional bias by some morons.

^^^ Agreed. And Bhajji also seems to have taken his spot for granted now. Sehwag is also someone who needs to step up in ODIs. He simply refuses to take any responsibilty even wehn the team is 3-4 down for almost nothing and has been very inconsitant. Yes thats the way he plays but the team''s requiremnt is also important

there is a simple solution and as you mentioned is followed in other sports.Assign each player a range of weight they have stay and drop them if they fail to do it.

I don't know what ODIs you have been watching, but Sehwag has rocked in ODIs for last 18 months or so.

When we were in TEST match in NZ requiring to play out 5 sessions, he plays stupid careless shots. I dont think he'll do anything different in ODIs. But if he can be a bit more careful till he gets to 50 in ODIs (even with 80 S/R), he'll surely score a 100 that day at more than run-a-ball. He just needs to be bat carefully till 40-50. Once he gets set, there is no stopping him. Only thing is sometimes he gets out before getting set in ODIs.

Sehwag plays a Gilchrist kind of role in the side. He'll be a bit inconsistent but on his day will win you the match. Not everyone in the team can play similar cricket. A successful side requires someone like Sehwag/Gilchrist. Having said that, he should temper his game down a bit if we lose a few quick wickets while he is still at the crease. He can always make up for it.
