I think he is the most naturally gifted left-hander in India. But with greater focus Gambhir left him behind a long time ago and Raina is doing so now. He needs a diet and some time in the middle. Come on dude. Cricket was invented for lazy, fat guys. Look at who all have played cricket. David boon, Ranatunga, Duleep Mendis, Inzamam, Ramesh powar. :hysterical: Infact Inzi ran into bad form only when he lost weight . Problem is not weight. Problem is lack of skill in certain areas and lack of hunger. He has a horrible defense against spinners. It is not going to change by losing 20 pounds.

He's been a regular in the side now for a year and a half ... Where is the hunger? Look at Marcus North in Australia ... The guy has scored over 10000 runs in first class cricket, gets a call up for Tests, scores 3 centuries in his first 2 series' only to now be fighting for his career again. Yet the Indians have allowed Yuvraj to go series after series with mediocre performance after mediocre performance without even a great domestic record to back it up. Dropping Yuvraj Singh I feel will hopefully either do 1 of the following 2 things: 1) Allow a proven domestic cricketer such as Vijay, Sharma, Badrinath, etc. to come through the ranks and claim his spot or 2) Serve as a wakeup call for Yuvraj Singh that he has to back up his potential with results and hopefully make him return a better player.

saneindian Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 SOmeone needs to drill some sense into Yuvi and suggest him to go for the much needed surgery on his injured knee even if it means 3 months out of the game . Those 3 months may mean missing SA series and IPL, but he may get fit in time for the t20 WC in May. Without that surgery he will keep putting on weight and it will keep getting tougher for him to comeback into form.

He's had enough chances to deliver and appears to lack the technique at test level to succeed on a consistent basis. Drop him to act as kick up the backside and hopefully he goes away and does some hard work and can come back a hungrier and more complete player ala Gambhir. If he cannot then it's time to move on and put faith in other players. Geoff Boycott made some interesting points a year ago: In Test cricket you need to be a bit different. You need to stay in to make a hundred, and this is where his technique is wanting. Not so much his temperament because he is a pretty smart lad. I remember he signed up with Yorkshire a couple of years ago and I thought he wouldn't make a run there. Especially in the early season, in April and May, when there is rain and it is cold, the pitch is juicy and it helps the seamers. I thought: he hasn't got the defensive technique to stay in to play with a good stride forward, select the line and length and decide which ball to play and which not to play. These are all facets in Test batting, and that is why it is a better test of your cricketing ability. Test cricket is not just about scoring runs but about staying in to score runs. And Yuvraj has found that very difficult. Occasionally when he has played in Tests on flat pitches where the ball doesn't turn or seam much, he has done quite well. But whenever he gets pitches where the ball moves around or does something, he has a big problem. Unless he improves his technique - and I haven't seen him do anything about that - he is still going to be found wanting at the Test level.

On past evidence he does not wish to do that and has loads of confidence in his star player - no matter how bad his performances with the bat and in the field were.
