The Outsider Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 When he can put in the kind of performances Swann has in South Africa next year, he can lay a claim.
Clarke Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Vettori has been the heart & soul of NZ cricket playing the roles of captain, star batsman, selector as well as bowler, which seems to have taken a toll on his bowling. Some years back, i would rate him above Bhajji but not now. Swann has had a gr8 season or two .. he has to show the numbers over the years that Bhajji has. Yep, Bhajji is the best :--D
Equinox Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: And he is also the best catcher in the World right?
Block hole Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: And he is also the best catcher in the World right? No, that title goes to Ashrafoooool ....:winky:
Dravid Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Leggies Kaneria Mishra Chawla [ for the poyz, KATICH is #1 wrist spinner :hahaha:
King Tendulkar Posted January 16, 2010 Author Posted January 16, 2010 When he can put in the kind of performances Swann has in South Africa next year' date=' he can lay a claim.[/quote'] When Swann puts in the performances that Bhaji has worldwide and over a good few years then he can lay claim to the crown! Its like hailing Bhaji the best spinner in the world over Warne, Murali and co after 2001 series. Or hailing Mendis as best in world after his whirl wind start to test cricket. Lets see how Swann does in next year against better players of spin then SA and Aussies. And when world analyses his perfomances on video and find ways to comabt it, which they will, not that Swann has been particularly devstating anyway!
ViruRulez Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Bhajji is indeed the best spinner at the moment (or may be Vettori)' date=' and that is a statement on the quality of spin bowling globally. Or are we spoiled by the likes of Warne, Murali and Kumble?[/quote'] I thought it would be wrong to say the best spinner in the world right now when we are not sure if he is the best in India sometimes with his dart bowling often. But then you are right that considering the spinners right now Bhajji and Vettori are perhaps the best bet. And that also speaks a lot about the quality of spin bowling nowadays where it seems people have gradually forgot about spinners while only hankering after batsmen and faster bowlers. The last generation of spinners were maybe 10 times better than the present generation.
urbestfriend Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Murali is still the spinner in the world...! He may be little out of form now, but I'm sure a champion spinner like him will come back strongly. Also I dont think his form against India in India should be considered to rule him out as best spinner because Indian batsmen are always good against spin. Even warne was poor against India in India.
zen Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 I never thought I would see a thread like this :headshake: .... hope we get some quality spinners soon

Even your beloved ICC rankings show that. Overall, Harbhajan is better having proven himself in more different situations over a period of time.
Block hole Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Here's another bit of news. Harbhajan Singh has been ruled out due to a stiff neck.
bharat297 Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Graeme Swann is the best spinner in the world, if we're going by current form. Swann has bowled very well against India, Australia and South Africa and is probably the first real spinner England have had in about as long as I can remember. Bhajji is good, but he doesnt have the consistency of Swann.

We can use the same kinda pricniple when comparing Bhajj and Murali, Murali is on the wane yes but has done more over the years Really current form is the way to judge. Whats Bhajjis overseas from been like recently .. I dont know. As Dom says, and VVSls list of spinners shows its an indication relatively poor spin stocks the world over. Relative to the 90's- mid 00's i.e when we had a few genuinely great spinners -possibly the three greatest ever- so in a way we are spoilt. Still a better scenario than the 80's when Qadir was the only good spinner in the world..
King Tendulkar Posted January 17, 2010 Author Posted January 17, 2010 Overall, Harbhajan is better having proven himself in more different situations over a period of time. So you agree with me then as shown by your clear statement above backing my OP! So why debate with me over it and why the hate towards Bhai?
The Outsider Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 So you agree with me then as shown by your clear statement above backing my OP! So why debate with me over it and why the hate towards Bhai? Really, man, how old are you - hate this, hate that, anti Sikh, anti Singh? In your OP you are contending Harbhajan is the best spinner in the world, that can be construed in two ways : 1. Current form - Swann is better. 2. Overall - Murali is better.

Your abusive ways to other posters shows imaturity on your part, especially as you are a mod! So who is in your opinion the best spinner in the world? And were do you rank India's Bhaji?

I hardly do any moderation anyways, so no need to invoke that aspect. Which reminds me I should remove my name from the list on the forum. I already said in my previous post. Amongst spinners currently playing, Swann is the best on current form and Murali the best overall. I would rank Harbhajan number 2 in both categories.
achilles Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I hate to see what this thread is turning into.
hoodlum Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Offies Murali Bhajji Swann Ajmal Hauritz Jeetan Patel I think Botha is also a good offie.
achilles Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Yes. But Roelef often pips him to the only spot of the spinner in the line-up. He's got a bit of a distance to go. So yes, I agree, he is a "good" offie. He'll be "great" in a few yrs' time
