Have been longing for this opportunity: Badrinath January 28, 2010 20:01 IST Almost certain to make his Test debut against South Africa next month, Tamil Nadu batsman S Badrinath on Thursday said he has been longing for this opportunity. The 29-year-old Tamil Nadu player is one of the six specialist batsmen named for India's first Test against the Proteas and Badrinath said he was fancying his chance. "I have been waiting for this chance for a long time and was really looking forward to it," Badrinath told from Indore where he is leading South Zone against Central Zone in the semifinal of Duleep Trophy. Badrinath have often been part of India's extended Test squad but never made it to the playing XI and now that he has a golden opportunity, the right-hander said he was not under any kind of pressure. "I am not under any pressure when it comes to playing either Test or short versions of the game. I am well experienced to handle the different formats of the game," said the youngster. "I always remain positive. I am geared up to sort out any situations against any attack and will try to be totally fit, both physically and mentally. "I'm trying to maintain my form and grab the opportunity. It is a question of staying positive. It's going to be a challenging series," he said. Link to comment

coffee_rules
I hope get gets SZ to the finals in Duleep tommorow. He must consider himself lucky to be selected over Raina, Kaif, etc. Didn't have much to do this year. Link to comment
Ram
This is it, this is his moment. We'll see if he's the real metal or just a fake alloy. I think more than pressure, it'll be a bigger test of technique for him. On a couple of occasions when he was on the international stage (IPL, ODIs against Lanka), he looked he belong and didnt seem to be too faced. But against the South Africans, it will be the biggest test of his technique yet. Link to comment
vvvslaxman
Good luck. Better late than never. He better takes it bloody seriously and makes it count. Good thing is if he does well he can put Yuvi away for a long time provided Vijay doesn't have a good game as well. Link to comment

But against the South Africans, it will be the biggest test of his technique yet. There was one occasion where he was absolutley pwned by Ishant sharma. He was clueless against series of incoming deliveries. Eventually he was bowled by Ishant. It is going to be about both temperament and technique. He can draw inspiration from Vijay who is cool as a cucumber. Link to comment
Karan114
Going to be very tough indeed for him, but good luck. Link to comment
rahulrulezz
One of the major issues with Badri is that sometimes he plays way too defensively and digs a hole for himself.... He needs to make sure to score off bad balls..... from what I have seen/heard, Dravid is like Sehwag in front of Badri when it comes to Strike Rate.. Link to comment
Show_stopper
I watched him bat against Siddle in the BP XI game when Aussies visited for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He leaves a lot to be desired as far as facing fast bowling is concerned..I guess we'll know for sure by this series. He is almost certain to play and the SA attack is good as it gets when it comes to pace bowling. Link to comment
satishg
hmm kind of sad that he is being the replacement for Rahul. I dont think he belongs to international cricket, having seen him struggle against quality fast bowling couple of times where his total lack of technique was easily visible..anyway ill be happy if he proves me wrong but i dont think that is going to happen not with this bowling attack that SA has. anyway good luck to him and it also ends the Badri debate now that he has been given the chance that all his supporters have been asking for Link to comment
vvvslaxman
why so bitter against UV :icflove: :cantstop: No bitter. He is gifted in certain ways. But in Tests it needs more than that. At times you have to be prepared to be ugly and do the hard yards. With weak defensive technique he comes across as an unreliable candidate. He could either produce a breathtaking innings or he could be a walking wicket. Compared to lot of other countries he is not a bad no.6. I want him to succeed. But every time he gets squared up by a medium pacer or a spinner it makes me cringe. Link to comment
Guest Hiten.
why so bitter against UV :icflove: :cantstop: There is no hatred towards UV here. But it's about time India look for replacement in the middle order as we're very fast nearing Trio's retirement, so we already have a big questions to ask and if UV does take his place for granted then we'll have to make a very hard (not really) decision to drop him and find a replacement for him too. In fact I am very much aware of how much he has had to change his game to get himself to be considered for those formats. At one point of time, he refused to hit the ball in the air at all at domestic level! ________ Live Sex Webshows Link to comment

thevortex
At last they've given him a chance to fail:winky: That sure is one way to look at it. I think he will look at it as his last chance. A player of his age should look at every single chance as his last one. coffee_rules
He got SZ to the finals. SZ chased 293 against a decent attack - Pkumar, Chawla and RPSingh. Had a good partnership with cowlasher Pandey - 82 in 4th inning chase. Good for Badrinath. This should give him a lot of confidence. Link to comment
cricketman
LOL can't even believe people wanted Kaif in the team. He is a has-been. One hundred and everyone wants him in? RAINA. Don't even get me starteed. He is an OD specialist. If he wants to be a test contender he needs to tighten up his defense a lot. Badri deserves this. He averages 55 after 9 years in domestic cricket. He will perform. Link to comment
