coffee_rules
24 40 5 1256 159 35.88 Saha has played 24 domestic fc matches for a average of 35. Must be a record for a bastman to be selected to the national team. Link to comment

Saha was in the final 14 (as a back-up wk). And then Rohit Sharma got hurt at the last minute. Now, they cannot pick someone who is not in the 14-member squad, can they? Link to comment

Did you speak up when squad was selected? Did they know that VVS is not recovered from injury? Did they got a dream that Rohit would get injured just before the start of the match? But under the given circumstances , we should have selected 5 bowlers. With 5 bowlers, we could have managed the workload of pacers nicely. Now we need to overload Zak , but he cant be as effective as he is tired. Link to comment

We have seen five bowlers theory failing many times, especially when Dravid was the captain. Did you not watch cricket then? 4 bowlers can easily handle the load. We do not need to take a newbie just for the sake of it. And yes, go back to the squad announcement thread and read how many people were voicing their concern at the lack of back up batsman in the squad, Remember, Rohit was a cover for Laxman only. Still we needed a back up batsman. In every squad we name 7 batsmen, 2 keepers 3 spinners and 4 seamers. Wonder what was different this time. Link to comment
ViruRulez
frankly speaking Pujara, Dhawan, Pandey etc. are perhaps pissed off right now .. they have worked their ass to score runs in domestic cricket and yet players like Dhawan and Pujara does not get a break .. on the other hand Saha has always played crap and yet got entry into the playing 11 .. even Karthik must be pissed off as to why Saha was selected instead of him even as a backup keeper... KD is 100x better than Saha at least Link to comment
Brainfade
the point is it should have been a 15 member squad.if they can have a reserve WK in the original squad' date='why not a reserve batsman?[/quote'] I re-checked - it is a 15-man squad. But, I see your point. If they were going to go with 7 batsmen, why not have a 15-member squad with an extra bat (Kohli?) instead of an extra bowler (Mithun?). But who would imagine that VVSL *and* VVSL's replacement (Rohit Sharma) would get hurt? PS: If Harbhajan and Mishra had taken a couple of wkts each, we wouldn't be having this conversation now, would we? Link to comment

So if something has not worked 3-4 years back, does it mean it'll never work? 4 bowlers theory works fine when at least 3 out of 4 bowlers are in a good form. We were fine with 4 bowlers when Ishant was bowling well along with Zak. But now only Zak is looking like picking wickets. Every other team except India has at least 3 seamers in playing XI and 5 bowlers. And we had 7 batsmen in the squad( with Rohit as backup for VVS), but unfortunate that Rohit got injured. Sooda
Well selectors always get slated for choosing 16 as that means players idling away on the sidelines, but now theres no domestic cricket they can play so they should have made the team perhaps. Its hard to play 5 bowlers unless one of them bats a bit It was the dreaded pre match football game :wall: that did Rohit in Link to comment

Sachinism
I don't even know how he made it in contention for selection? Seriously where this dude come from? We were playing KKD, he was doing his job, though his keeping could have been a bit better. But anyway Saha as a fill in for a batsman is just :headshake: Link to comment
Karan114
But anyway Saha as a fill in for a batsman is just :headshake: No kidding...I mean, all our discussions on ICF over who will replace the big three in a few years time, whether Yuvi's place might come under question, even Nayar as a possibility after his hundred in the tour game...all those contenders of various ages in the domestic circuit and guess what, it is a keeper Wridhimman friggin Saha playing as a specialist batsman for the Indian Test team! Nothing against the guy personally of course but what a mess in this most crucial of series. SA have responded to the coach axing etc. problems by racking up almost 300/2 on day one instead. Ram
Imagine Graeme Smith's reaction when he saw the team-sheet before the toss.. 'Sehwag, Gambhir, Sachin, Dhoni, Vijay..yea, isnt he the newcomer? k... Badrinath..hmmm, the debutant, we can target him... Sah..err..Saha, who's this dude... ? Hey Dale, Morkel and Paul, you guys are not gonna believe this...' Link to comment
Karan114
Saha's last FC batting performance was a three ball duck (run out), meanwhile Dinesh Karthik has just smashed two hundreds in the Duleep Trophy final... Link to comment
Gunner_Mania
Nothing against the guy personally of course but what a mess in this most crucial of series. . Exactly. Nothing against the guy. I don't think even he would've woken up thinking this morning that would make his debut today. Let's just hope and he can muster a few runs more than what he did in his last FC outing.
