East Zone A fine bowling effort led by Ranadeb Bose and a strokeful hundred from Shreevats Goswami handed Bengal their first win in two games, while Jharkhand's fortunes swung the other way at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. After a reasonably sound start from the Jharkhand openers, Bose vindicated Bengal's decision to field by dismissing Sachin Prasad for 9. Ashok Dinda quickly removed Ishank Jaggi for a blob to put the skids on the innings. Saurabh Tiwary tried to counterattack with Siddhartha Sinha, but Sayan Mondal dismissed both in the 16th over of the innings, after which survival became the need of the hour for Jharkhand. Rajiv Kumar dropped anchor to score an unbeaten 69, but Bose skittled the rest to ensure that the innings folded under 200. With little scoreboard pressure, Goswami settled for a big innings, and struck 16 fours and a six in an attractive innings. Wriddhiman Saha supported him will with a chirpy 51, and their 133-run stand took their side home with a bonus point. Tripura made Orissa sweat every inch of the way, but the hosts eventually prevailed by two wickets at the Ravenshaw College Ground in Cuttack. Debasis Mohanty was the hero, as he seized the opportunity to bowl first, to finish with exemplary figures of 4 for 14 in his 10 overs. Wickets fell at regular intervals and only a fighting 30-ball 45 from Sukanta Reang could lift the score close to 199. Orissa's chase got off to the worst start, with Wilkin Mota trapping Bikas Pati in front first ball. Natraj Behera calmed the nerves in the company of Subit Biswal and Halhadar Das, to put his side in command at 120 for 2, before things started to go awry. Mota prised out three, while Tushar Saha accounted for two, as the score crumbled to 158 for 7. Rakesh Mohanty and Alok Chandra Sahoo then played calm hands to take their side home. North Zone Haryana romped to their second successive win with a comprehensive show against Himachal Pradesh in a low-scorer at the Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium in Rohtak. Hopes of a Haryana win were rather bleak at the halfway mark after they had stuttered along to 188, in the face of some impressive bowling. Ashok Thakur went for just 15 in his spell of ten overs, but the damage was done by left-armer Kuldeep Diwan, who picked 5 for 39. Defending a modest target, Haryana required a strong allround effort, and the opening bowlers - Sanjay Budhwar and Joginer Sharma - produced exactly that. South Zone Karnataka sauntered to their second win in two days, while Andhra were still winless after the encounter at Central Polytechnic India Pistons Ground in Chennai. Little went right for Andhra apart from the toss, as Vinay Kumar dealt two early blows from which the innings barely recovered. Gnaneswara Rao's 71 was the only performance worth mentioning, as Andhra floundered against steady bowling, and a couple of run-outs did their cause no good. Ganesh Satish followed his hundred from Wednesday with another aggressive and substantial contribution. His 82 and opener Rongsen Jonathan's 64 took Karnataka through with a bonus point. Tamil Nadu romped to a comfortable seven-wicket win against Goa in a match that lasted just a shade over 60 overs India Cement Limited Guru Nanak College Ground in Chennai. Goa started off well, with Advait Katkar and Swapnil Asnodkar adding 65 within the first 15 overs to set a strong platform, before offspinner Suresh Kumar single-handedly changed the complexion of the game. Kerala out-lasted Hyderabad in a batting slug-fest at the Indian Institute of Technology Chemplast Ground, as Raiphi Gomez got close to matching Herschelle Gibbs' List-A feat of hitting six sixes in an over. The moment came in the last over of the Kerala innings bowled by the hapless Ravi Teja. Gomez slammed the first ball for six, but lost the chance for the record when the second ball went for four runs. However, he sent the next four balls out of the park, and Ravi Teja conceded a wide as well, to take the over's expense to 35 runs. Gomez finished with 88 off 29 balls, but the early damage was done by the openers Abhishek Hegde and VA Jagadeesh, who both struck hundreds in a 241-run opening stand. Ravi Teja did his best to rectify his prodigality with the ball, and hit the highest score of the day, a sparkling 131 but, with no support except for Ambati Rayudu's chirpy 48 forthcoming, Hyderabad folded 55 runs short in the 48th over. West Zone Saurashtra held their nerve to grab a four-wicket win against Maharashtra in high-scoring humdinger at the Sardar Patel Stadium B Ground. It was left-hander Pratik Mehta who proved to be the hero with a fantastic unbeaten hundred coming in at No. 7, to seal victory with one ball to spare. Jaidev Unadkat's early double blow had Maharashtra on the backfoot, before Kedar Jadhav's propped them up with a sparkling 141 off 112 balls. His virtuoso effort, including 14 fours and three sixes, seemingly had Maharashtra in the driver's seat as they ended on 327 for 9. An opening stand of 88 between Chirag Pathak and Jaydev Shah gave Saurashtra a solid start before right-arm seamer Kishore Bhikane swung it Maharashtra's way with three wickets. But Mehta would provide the final twist, as he teamed up with wicketkeeper Sagar Jogiyani (60) to add 163 for the sixth wicket. With Jogiyani's dismissal on 286, it was left to Mehta to continue the charge. He finished unbeaten 134 off 107 balls, hitting 12 fours and three sixes en route, as Saurashtra's campaign got off to a winning start. While Sushant Marathe grabbed the headlines yesterday, it was his fellow opener Praful Waghela who shaped Mumbai's win against Gujarat at the Sardar Patel Stadium C Ground. Even as wickets fell around him after Mumbai chose to bat, Waghela responsibly held the innings together with a 108-ball 92, comprising nine fours and a six. Identical 35-ball 41s from Abhishek Nayar and Suryakumar Yadav along the way helped Mumbai post an impressive 285 for 8. Gujarat's chase was rocked by Usman Malvi's twin strikes before Bhavik Thaker and Niraj Patel combined for a fourth-wicket stand of 60. Ajit Agarkar had the final say though, as he picked up two lower-order scalps to add to his early wicket of Parthiv Patel. Gujarat were handed their second defeat, eventually being bowled out in the 45th over for 207. Central Zone Murali Kartik's fine spell, topped off with a hat-trick in his ninth over, and a belligerent 81 from TP Singh gave Railways a four-wicket win against Rajasthan at the Maharani Usharaje Trust Cricket Ground in Indore. A cautious 66 from Vineet Saxena and a more adventurous 60 from Rashmi Parida had taken to Rajasthan to the strength of 153 for 1 in the 34th over before Kartik and co. stifled them to 256 for 9. The innings had already floundered when Vikrant Yadav, Pankar Singh and Vivek Yadav fell off successive balls to the left-armer. TP Singh shook off a sluggish start to the chase, striking four sixes and eight fours to raise Railways from 35 for 2 in the 12th over to 166 when he fell in the 32nd. Marripuri Suresh, Yere Goud and Karan Sharma chipped in to ensure that the match was sealded in the 48th over. Madhya Pradesh nosed ahead of Vidarbha in a low-scoring nerve-jangler at the Emerald High School Ground in Indore. The hosts won the toss and their seamers kept the Vidarbha batsmen on a tight leash. Amit Paunikar was the only top-order batsman to come to grips with the situation, but could not convert his 40 into a substantial contribution, and fell to Amarjeet Singh. Ankit Sharma kept things tight in the middle overs before Gaurav Upadhyaya and Shrikant Wagh resuscitated the innings with a 62-run stand. Amarjeet then came back to pick three more wickets and wrap up the innings for 204. Madhya Pradesh never got to terms with the chase, as four batsmen fell in the 20s. Upadhyaya was the pick of the bowlers, picking three scalps, but Anand Singh played a calm innings to take his side close. An unbroken ninth-wicket stand worth 29, fittingly between the bowling heroes Ankit and Amarjeet, sealed the deal for the hosts.

Tiwary fined for dissent and damaging dressing-room Cricinfo staff February 12, 2010 Manoj Tiwary, the Bengal captain, has been suspended for a match and fined his entire match fee for his angry reaction on being dismissed lbw during his team's Vijay Hazare Trophy encounter against Jharkhand in Cuttack. Tiwary was miffed after being adjudged lbw for 3, off the bowling of Yaju Krishanatry. "He was unhappy at the decision and he abused the umpire. Worse happened later when he brought out his anger in the dressing room. He damaged glass, mirror, switch boards and even dust-bins," Orissa Cricket Association secretary Asirbad Behera told PTI. "Behaviour of this order from a senior player like Tiwary, who has played for India, is disgraceful. This really leaves a bad example for the junior players." Behera said he had also written to Jagmohan Dalmiya, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president, asking for further action against Tiwary. "I have asked him [Dalmiya] to take disciplinary action against him. The Bengal manager offered us money for the damage amounting to about Rs 40,000 (US$860)," Behera said. "But that's not an issue. This attitude should change." Arun Mitra, the CAB joint-secretary, said that the CAB was considering further action. "Let him come back then we will see what can be done. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly (64 off 63) and Abhishek Jhunjhunwala (83n.o.) also chipped in with crucial contribution as Goswami found two able allies in the middle. After Assam piled up 299 for five in stipulated 50 overs, courtesy Dheeraj Jadhav's unbeaten 148 and Parvez Aziz (83), Bengal overhauled the competitive target with 7.3 overs to spare. Earlier, Bengal put Assam in to bat but were hammered by the opening pair of Jadhav and Aziz who scored 176 runs in 32.4 overs. Jadhav's 148 included 15 hits to the fence during his 150-ball stay, while Aziz hit eight boundaries and one six. For Bengal, paceman Ashok Dinda bagged three wickets for 57 runs, while Sayan Mondal took one. Put in to bat, Orissa had a sluggish start with openers B S Pati and Natraj Behera bowled out by V R Aaron for paltry six and 14 runs respectively. The hosts gained momentum only after captain and wicket keeper Haladhar Das came to the crease. He scored 88 off 98 balls with seven fours and three sixes. Adding further pace to run rate was Rashmi Das who hammered 104 off 81 balls hitting 15 fours and two sixes. Orissa were all out for 278 in 49.4 overs. Jharkhand's V R Aaron displayed impressive bowling capturing five wickets and conceding 54 runs. Karan's 111-ball innings was studded with 12 fours, while Uday hit only three boundaries in his 78-ball innings. So many matches have yielded 600+ runs :wall:. How do you expect to nurture a fine talent on such dead pitches where bowlers are nothing but cannon fodder to the fringe batting line up (most of the sides).

In one dayers 600 is not uncommon. But our bowlers do not develop other skills (apart from biting the ball) to adapt to shorter version. Slower balls, yorkers etc. Even india doesn't have a decent pace bowling unit. Remember we conceded 328 runs to Pakistan in CT. Our bowlers are limited regardless of the surface. They just don't know how to bowl at the death, how to bowl at the start, how to choke in the middle on a consistent basis.

He took a five wicket haul in an OD game and he has been playing ODI cricket, I fail to see the issue. If you're talking about Tests, then you are talking jibberish because his recent FC performances do not justify a Test selection, they barely justify his inclusion in the UP team.

How often did he play the domestics? Most of the time he was warming the bench in the Indian squad, how do you expect him to be in rythm playing the odd game? My point is not just about Tyagi, if not him they should have at least picked Mithun. The selectors are not looking beyond certain players. Its also unfair to drop players without giving them a match.
