Only Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna at their peaks would have commanded the star power and popularity that he does. star power has changed it's meaning and value over the years. In AB and RK's days, it was about fanfare. Nowadays, it's about staying in the news and polarising the audience enough to get them to watch the movies either way. His movies are a hit mainly overseas because of a International (read Pakistani and Bangla Muslims who follow Bollywood) audience he gets. In India, his popularity is waning and he is unpopular enough to make some people watch his movies, just so they b1tch about how bad it is.

There is a reason I've watched maybe 2-3 of his movies in the past 10 years, for that matter even the pseudo intellectual crap that Aamir Khan dishes out. I would rather watch a Singh is King or even a Veer - non pretentious nonsense if I were to watch a run off the mill Hindi movie or I would stick to my Maqbool and Ishqiya. But what I don't understand is people saying, "He is crap, bakwaas, hamming away etc. etc." , then line up to watch his movie in the first week and then curse him more like Pakis do with Bollywood. I bet most posters hurling abuses on him have watched most of his movies. Look at the poster Dravid, he almost goes wild on his keyboard at the mention of Shah Rukh Khan's name and then goes to watch the movie on the first day!! Oh, and regarding reviews one would have to be extremely naive to think that Shah Rukh Khan is the only one paying to have good reviews written.

I was in India last year around the time of release of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi - people from all spectra were looking forward to the movie and anticipating it's release. It's not that his movies run only abroad. Do you think that his movies in India run for months on end in theaters being watched just by people who hate him and his movies, so they can watch and b!tch about them? If that's the case then it's certainly not Shah Rukh Khan who is the idiotic one here.

There is a daylight between the acting of a stage actor and others who are plugged in a script because of their looks/body/charm whatever the selection criteria is (e.g: Upen Patel :wall:).
