Desi Cartman Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I was reading a review of MNIK on TOI and I noticed something which got me thinking that even though I avoid SRK's movies, maybe I should watch this one Performance-wise, this undoubtedly towers as Shah Rukh's best act. He never once loses grip on his character, despite the mannerisms, the awkward body language and the distinct speech style. Definitely, this one's a few miles ahead of even Tom Hank's Forrest Gump The moive has been given 5 stars on TOI. The review is the longest I have ever read for a movie on TOI. Here is the summary A word about Performances: Shah Rukh is stupendous, Kajol mesmerising, Zarina Wahab moving and the kids -- Tanay and Yuvaan -- are brilliant. Not once does Shah Rukh lose his grip on the distinct character who has a distinct body language and a completely unchartered emotional graph. Direction: Karan Johar comes of age. He tells a complex story with sparkling simplicity, without forgetting that cinema is primarily meant to entertain. Story: Karan Johar and Shibani Batijha's script is expansive, covering several events that have made headlines in the recent past. Yet, it essentially remains a moving love story that moves you no end. Dialogue: Niranjan Iyengar and Shibani Bathija have demystfied contemporary strife with polish, restraint and research. Music: Shankar-Ehsan-Loy's audio track is brimming over with soulful, uplifting tracks like Noor-e-Khuda. Cinematography: Ravi K Chandran creates a dreamy San Fransisco on canvas even as his Mumbai remains so real, so downtown, so back-alleyed. Styling: Manish Malhotra and Shiraz Siddiqui go cosmo and chic with Kajol and nerdish with SRK. Perfectly apt. So its all good , flawless movie , better than Forsest Gump and what not ... It got me thinking that maybe its time to go n watch SRK on the big screen but then I saw what people had written about the movie and the rating they have given it Avg rating so far is 3.5 stars .. again I think TOI has used its :emc: powers to make that happen Patriot, Muscat, says: Guys ! It's another pathetic movie from Karan Johar's stables - really an emotional atyachaar...And just another cheap publicity stunt ... How can anyone justify 3 idiots getting 4 stars & MNIK - 5 !!! Got my point? You might as well watch this movie on a dvd once it's released after 2-3 months instead scurrying to the theatres and wasting your time & money. KJ always develops a story which emotionalise or over emotionalise and do it exactly in the way SRK does it the best...all dialogues and scene sequences would be based on who best SRK would be able to deliver rather than having that dialogue or scene giving some meaning to entire story...bus as long as they can drill hole among us...no one will complaint...Story never says anything convincingly...Neither love story nor story after 9/11...and things are blown out of proportion to sell a story which can neither be called a meaningful movie nor a movie with a message... Clearly Shiv Sena has managed to help SRK pull in the $$$$$$$$. People are watching it in mumbai to stick two fingers up to sena but the only onewho really benefit are SRKs bank account and associates

BTW I also mentioned that Singh is King also got 4-5 stars ... PS: I was talking to my cousin who saw this movie and thinks its barely average. :nervous:

I hardly watch Indian movies, but of the three I have watched recently, TZP, Ghajini and 3 Idiots, two of them were excellent and Ghajini sucked. It was the most, repulsive bullshyt that had me itching to tear the screen. It is a co-incidence that I have only watched Aamir Khan movies recently, he is a good actor, I don't think he is great, but at least his movies are watchable. The only movie of SRK that I liked was Swades, and come to think of it, that was one of the roles he accidentally fit into, stoic and expressionless most of the movie, which actually suited the character.

Inse baat mat karo, If u really wana knw whether it is gud or bad. Talk to people who knws a thng or two abt Movies. Not here, u can go and chck reviews of people in a bollywood site. Here many people hates SRK coz he didnt bought their fav franchise. Many of my frnds went for the movie frm my colg who are Neutral Fans. They said MNIK is an Awesum movie. A landmark in the history of Indian Cinema. Am not exaggerating it. Just puting the Opinion of people who liked the movie irrespective of their Likes and Dislikes of the people acting in it. I'll give my opinion on the movie after i watch it. Till den am out b4 lunatics start abusing me.
