Well.. Dont understand why people go with these stereotypes. Nayar is not an allrounder , he is selected as a specialist batsman. Just because he can roll his arms doesn't make him an allrounder. He has shown in this Ranji and BP-XI match that he is good batsman and he is rightly rewarded. So whoever is crying that we lack one specialist batsman, just chillax.

There is no way Nayar can be considered an all rounder. He shouldn't be allowed to bowl a single ball infact. Should be told in clear terms that he has been picked for his batting. IMHO the best possible XI from this squad would be Sehwag Sachin Kohli Dhoni Raina Nayar Jadeja Mishra Zak Tyagi Nehra. I don't know if its enough overcome the Saffers though. itall depends on how the middle order performs I guess. While playing in India most of the times..bowling is taken out of the equation.

He only recently improved his record. That won't put him in the league of a top order batsman. His List A average is just 25.

well even Yusuf is a specialist batsman' date='but the truth is they wouldnt have been selected if they didnt bowl[/quote'] Yusuf is different case, he is a lower oder hitter and good part-time ODI bowler. But not nayar. I have not noticed Nayar bowling these days in Ranji or domestic ODI matches. Also he comes to bat at no5 for Mumbai followed by other specialist batsmen.

Nayar actually bowls quite a lot.m sure it was considered

Yusuf always did well under Warne. There must be some different strategy from Dhoni as far as using him. He plays well when he is treated as the best player in his team. India should slot him in different batting spots and see how he goes. His amazing six hitting ability should be utilized properly.

Nayar has just taken 5 wickets this Ranji season and bowled just one over in duleep trophy. He doesn;t even complete his 10 overs quota in domestic ODI matches,he just bowls 2-3 overs. Moreover we have three allrounders Ashwin, Jadeja and Yusuf ( if you like to call him one) selected in the squad. Do you still think he has been selected as an allrounder?

Ashwin allrounder?hes a bowler who can bat a bit just like Bhajji n PK. n Nayar's List A average is 26.why the eff is he selected if his bowling wasnt considered

He was the best batsman in the BP XI game vs SA recently. that merits a place in the side..doesn't it?

Because we dont consider his overall list A average for national squad selection. Its always been first class performances i.e Ranji, Duleep trophy and tour matches are considered for selection and he has done very well in Batting this season. Hope you understand this simple thing.

different format.i have always spoken for Nayar to get a test spot.his FC average is good at 47.but cant understand why hes in ODI squad if we ignore his bowling

Yeah what urbestfriend said. Also its obvious that the selectors wanted a batsman who had faced Steyn and co. before albeit just the one game. that can be the only reason for them ignoring other batsmen like Pandey.
