teacup Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 The selectors are considering Nayar only as an all-rounder, I guess. The players who are rested are top order batsmen and as a result their replacements are also top order batsmen. With Jadeja performing well there was no chance that Nayar would play in the 3rd ODI and with our bowling lacking pace and accuracy the selectors have opted for Mithun instead. But I do agree with the broader point that the selectors don't seem to be consistent in their selection. With only 12 months to go for the World Cup we are nowhere near to having the best possible combination in place.
pappu_kanghi Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Wow they dropped Praveen Kumar too. He was the only bowler looking to take wickets and they dropped him. Nehra is still there. He gives 60+ runs in every match it doesnt matter whether he bowls 5 overs or 10 overs. I hope nehra gets injured and never plays for India again.
Show_stopper Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Well just to hazard a guess as to why Nayar was dropped..could Yusuf Pathan's relatively good performances in the 2 ODIs so far have played a part?

Good call. They probably had Nayar in the eventuality where Yusuf sucks both with ball and bat.

vvvslaxman Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 What about Praveen Kumar? Praveen is a pure bowler. Opening bowler. No comparison there.
Temujin Khaghan Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 What about Praveen Kumar? and that guy doesnt need a lot of recovery either... for the speeds he bowls at. he is actually pretty fit too. its a shame he trained to be a medium pace bowler.
pappu_kanghi Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 and that guy doesnt need a lot of recovery either... for the speeds he bowls at. he is actually pretty fit too. its a shame he trained to be a medium pace bowler. :wall: Why did they drop him? Why not nehra?
Temujin Khaghan Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 :wall: Why did they drop him? Why not nehra? nehra is dhoni's slave. :haha:
vvvslaxman Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Nehra sure came up with a USE BY DATE. We all knew that . We supported him through that period. Now he is past that date. If Dhoni is going to continue with him atleast he should not use him in the death overs. India needs someone like Steve Waugh in the death overs. All brain.
Show_stopper Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 :wall: Why did they drop him? Why not nehra? I am 100% sure he wasn't dropped. He was the best seamer out of the lot. The way I see it e is a definite starter in our ODI XI as things stand now. So he was left out in order to make sure some new seamers play the 3rd ODI. With the new squad..atleast one new seamer will play. We could see 2 new seamers even if they rest either Nehra or Sree.
teacup Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 The cricinfo report says PK was rested. I have a feeling Mithun and Tyagi will get a chance to play and either Sreesanth or Nehra will be dropped.
CSK Fan Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 :wall: Why did they drop him? Why not nehra? He is injured
Sooda Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Think MSD should have been rested too and maybe Badri got in..but with this squad... MV Kartik Raina Virat Rohit YKP R Jadeja R Ashwin Nehra Tyagi Amit Mishra
Cricketics Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 With all due respect to Abhishek Nayar, I(who has criticized selectors for giving numerous chances to Rohit) would say that this time the decision to pick Rohit isn't a bad one since they have realized the importance of whitewashing the south africans and since none of the GOOD BATSMANS - TENDLYA, SEHWAG, Gambhir would be around, so it would be ideal to have a batsman of Rohit's caliber there. Surely Nayar deserved a chance, but for this game I won't be Rohit playing. Would be great to see a classic Kohli-Sharma P'ship to send south africa packing 3-0.
koksmayu Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 do you think srikanth is zone biased? M.VIJAY,S.TYAGI,D,KARTHICK,A.MITHUN R.ASHVIN ,S.BADRINATH i think srikanth is zone biased i closely look in and if you look his carrer as a chief selecter since he started he keep\ tryin tryin trying to push south indian cricketers lots more than other zones, i mean that s not fair....if everybody does this thing then true talent would be ruin . see, he gave chance to m.vijay (not talented) guys go and look his carrer graph and average he s been given enough chances to prove his talent but he couldn`t that means very weak player guys lots of talented player knocking the door to enter in test team but they r not getting chance.. and sudip tyagi same thing...mr.srikanth just quit push waste players please and please give chance to real talent and inreal form same thin in odi matches and 20 20 cricket thanks
Ultimate_Game Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 To be fair to Srikanth they are all good players and are good enough to be in the team. However I would make one change - I would have Badrinath instead of Vijay in the squad. Badrinath has paid his dues at first class level and deserves a longer run at intl level.
yoda Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 you could make an argument that since he has become the chief selector, SZ players are finally getting a fair look. there was a point when the ODI team had ZERO players from the 4 southern states. don't tell me that half the country is totally useless in the limited overs format of the game.
