I always thought it was the captain asking the selection committee for certain types or players i.e. 'we need an off-spinner' or even suggesting a few players who they think would do well, but the final decision lays with the selection committee. Does it work differently to this?

E.g. 2-3 Sikhs, 5-6 Hindus and 5-6 other religion players. So the answer to your question is NO, the captain has to accept the final decision and play with what he's been given. However in countries like Australia, the captain asks for certain types of players so that the desired results could be acheived. India however has different selection policies. And of course if you're related to certain people in the higher ranks then life is much more easier or if you can fund your selection ;-)

But poor selectors keep thinking he means kph and keep providing him with people people like PK and co. Question: So indian bowlers are dropping their pace to increase accuracy since last few years but who exactly is accurate?

This was our squad for 1st and 2nd ODI: Squad: MS Dhoni (capt/wk), Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Sudeep Tyagi, Praveen Kumar, Abhishek Nayar, Yusuf Pathan, Amit Mishra. For the 3rd ODI: M Vijay, Dinesh Karthik, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni (capt & wk), Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Yusuf Pathan, Ravindra Jadeja, Sudeep Tyagi, S Sreesanth, R Ashwin, Amit Mishra, Abhimanyu Mithun, Ashish Nehra Rightly so, SRT and Veeru were rested from the dead rubber but do you guys see a retarded policy that is being persisted by our selectors ? Without playing a single game Nayar was dropped from the 3rd ODI squad and the amongst the new face Rohit Sharma was brought into the squad :WTF:. It is guaranteed that Rohit won't be playing the 3rd ODI but why not give a chance to Nayar when you've included him in your initial squad. He had to be the very first candidate to replace any of our first choice players (either be it injured or rested or whatever it is). I don't think selectors have learnt the lesson after Test 1 debacle vs SA and are still picking a 14/15 men pool just for the sake of it.
