Ultimate_Game Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 That is so but at least the players who got a break were deserving players unlike previous selection panels who selected the likes of Kambli, Jacob Martin, Sujith Somasundar, Kanitkar, Rohan Gavaskar etc. As long as team is doing well and there's no clear case of favoritism I am fine. I was more pissed off at Srikanth for 1st test selection against saffers which cost us the match. He should have had couple more batsmen in the squad in place of fast bowlers that time.
Ultimate_Game Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 One other thing... I hope Srikanth gives a decent chance to Nayar - it's unfair to drop the guy without getting a game. Also would love to see Shikhar Dhawan get a chance in the near future. I think the guy's a class player and would surprize many if given a chance, especially in tests.
patriot Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 M.VIJAY,S.TYAGI,D,KARTHICK,A.MITHUN R.ASHVIN i think srikanth is zone biased i closely look in and if you look his carrer as a chief selecter since he started he keep tryin tryin trying to push south indian cricketers lots more than other zones, i mean that s not fair....if everybody does this thing then true talent would be ruin . see, he gave chance to m.vijay (not talented) guys go and look his carrer graph and average he s been given enough chances to prove his talent but he couldn`t that means very weak player guys lots of talented player knocking the door to enter in test team but they r not getting chance.. and sudip tyagi same thing...mr.srikanth just quit push waste players please and please give chance to real talent and inreal form same thin in odi matches and 20 20 cricket thanks Do you think Dhoni is also biased towards North Indians ? I mean he keeps backing the useless Sharmas ( Ishant and Rohit ) and Singhs ( RP Singh). He kept S. Badrinath out of the team for so long. Had Badrinath changed his name to Badri Pratap Singh or Badri Pratap Sharma, he would have probably already played 20 tests for India.:winky:

Rohit Sharma and RP Singh were instrumental in India winning the T20 world cup and Ishant Sharma was one of the major reason for India beating Aus in Aus and winning VB Series. Dhoni is pretty loyal to guys who performed in tough situations and you can see a pattern there.
Temujin Khaghan Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 everyone is biased. since we are winning now... the media is laying low.
ludhianvi Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Tyagi is from UP IIRC but just plays for Chennai in the IPL
Ultimate_Game Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 everyone is biased. since we are winning now... the media is laying low. Personal biases are bound to happen. After all you can't pick 14 or 16 players and expect to please everyone. No matter what you do someone will be pissed off at you. And Dhoni should have leverage to select players he believes in... after all he's the captain and held accountable for the results. As long as no clear favoritism occurs I am happy. After all I don't want to see dark days of 90s when players such as Jacob Martin, Kanitkar, Kambli, Somasundar, Rathore, Bhupinder Singh etc. were selected.

Ultimate_Game Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 these players were first-class superstars Yup and anyone who saw them at first class level knew they didn't have it in them to cut it at intl level. Sometime you look at a player and you know immediately whether the player is good enough to play at intl level or not irrespective how much the player scores. These players, other than Kambli in early 90s, never looked good enough to play at intl level.
Zap_Brannigan Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 maybe , just maybe the south has 3 very strong teams in domestic level that the chances are higher. Infact, a few years back selectors didnt select a single TN player. Sriram and Sharath never got their chances. Badri, after being one of the most consistent player just got his place in the team. Tyagi, not a southie, was fast tracked after his impressive performance in IPL. Something similar to Gony. That means he is biased for CSK members ? But Karthik keeps getting chances over proper batsmen.Maybe a soft spot for Delhi Daredevils then. Then what about the likes of Rohit sharma. He came back to the side after IPL. Why dont you look at the stats and records before you start a thread like this ?
punjabi_khota Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 you could make an argument that since he has become the chief selector, SZ players are finally getting a fair look. there was a point when the ODI team had ZERO players from the 4 southern states. don't tell me that half the country is totally useless in the limited overs format of the game. :hysterical::hysterical: It is still useless(flamy :finger:). The two players from south are KKD and Sree. KKD is there because UV is injured. Sree is a waste of place in ODIs and probably just should focus on tests. :hahaha: :hahaha:

vvvslaxman Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 South Zone especially TN has one of the strongest batting line up. They blasted every team simply with their batting might. Not surprised there are more batsmen from TN.
vvvslaxman Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 most surprisingly inclusion of Dinesh Karthik always in playing XI, when any player is injured.... he is wicketkeeper batsman...but there are better batsman in India at the moment... He scored 2 centuries in Duleep trophy final, he scored mountains of runs at quick rate in the Ranji trophy and duleep trophy last year too. He is better than Badrinath as a pure batsman. One of the reason he gets preference is he is a flexible team man. He can field well. He can bat anywhere. He can keep.
achilles Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 This thread COMPLETELY reflects my views on the subject and everyone here knows my opinion on the same.
Sooda Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 M.VIJAY' date='[b']S.TYAGI :hehe:, D,KARTHICK,A.MITHUN R.ASHVIN ,S.BADRINATH average he s been given enough chances to prove his talent but he couldn`t that means very weak player guys lots of talented player knocking the door to enter in test team but they r not getting chance.. Why dosent anyone who claims there is Southie bias (Achilles etc) post reasonable alternatives to the southie players who are in the team- all of whom are there based on very good FC records/seasons. Who are these lots of talented players not being given a chance ? If anything Badri has had to wait longer than he should have IMO The only one who I have q mark over is Ashwin, but having never seen him bowl I cant comment. I think his domestic Ltd Overs records isnt bad. maybe , just maybe the south has 3 very strong teams in domestic level that the chances are higher. Infact, a few years back selectors didnt select a single TN player. Sriram and Sharath never got their chances. Badri, after being one of the most consistent player just got his place in the team. Why dont you look at the stats and records before you start a thread like this ? Well said...! one thing though Is that Tyagi had a storming FC season when he first burst on to the scecen about 2 years ago. Then had a back injury I think which meant he had to wait... so not quite based on IPL alone unlike the Dindas and Gonys
someone Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Where were these bias when Ajit Akargar continued to play for India especially appearing out of nowhere for the world cup squad. It would not surprise me if somehow we get the old selection panel and he comes back...

Who are these lots of talented players not being given a chance ? I like Badri. Every Indian, regardless of the region likes the guy. What I hate is that there is a South overkill ! Talking about alternatives, here are some- M.VIJAY - Can be replaced by Aakash Chopra, if he's done being unlucky. S.TYAGI - Irfan Pathan KKD - Can be replaced by Robin Uthappa or Che Pujara or Jaffer bhai A.MITHUN - Pradeep Sangwan (Low pace, wily customer) but I'd like to see Mithun if he IS that fast, although Dinda is faster R.ASHVIN - Piyush Chawla is a better bowler than him, BY MILES. S.BADRINATH - Comes in my team.
ViruRulez Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 too many southies in the team after Cheeka became chief selector :P
