No questions about it. It has to be one of the best ODI innings leave aside his own. Gibbs' 180 odd comes above him as his team successfully chased down record target whereas SRT's teammates did not show up and IIRC only one batsman managed to score 50 other than SRT.

Dhonis 183* against SL has to be the best ODI innings ever . that was just a perfect Innings under pressure , with wickets falling at the other end ,Dhoni almost single handedly won the match & saw us through . Gibbs knocks was top notch , but SA could have easily lost the match & he could have ended on a losing side like Tendulkar . I agree with the OP though ,Tendulkars knock against Aus was better .

Although there is a great rivalry between Pakistan and India, it's difficult to not admire the excellence of India's batting. Though Sehwag will always been my favourite Indian player, it's hard to fault the 175. Yeh the 200 is amazing, a simply incredible achievement, but in terms of the pressure on him, and the brutality of his innings, the 175 is the best I have seen of any Asian batsman ever. My father says Viv Richard's 189 is the best ever, so I'll take his word on that, but in my life I have seen two simply outrageous innings, the 175 by Gibbs and the 175 by Tendulkar.

No. I played 15 years back :haha:. Aravinda de silva played that so many times in his early days. Those who likes to play on the off side a lot plays that shot naturally. But where exactly Tendulkar differs is he could do that even when the ball is very close to his body. Basically he didn't need width to play that shot as he displayed at Perth.

WRONG. As graphic points out, Sachin used that shot as a way of handling Ntini's short pitched deliveries in the Bloemfontein test in 2001, where Sehwag made his debut.

Uppercut is not really a great shot to invent. I have seen that shot at so many club levels on matting wickets. Srikkanth, jayasuriya have all played those shots. It is not as unorthodox as switch hit, diliscoop, marillier shot, reverse sweep et al. But that "paddle drive" kind of shot is kinda specialized by Tendu and Dhoni.

Uppercut must be credited to the former South African all rounder Eddie Barlow. I remember reading somewhere that even Alan Knott employed the shot to counter the West Indian quicks. Nothing beats the desert storm century IMO.
