What was Dhoni doing?

Dhoni was unthinkably brilliant. Even though the whole excitement and focus was about Sachin getting to 200, Dhoni didn't let it bother him. Rather, he used the most mature strategy. He went after the bowlers, took away their attention from Sachin, gave Sachin a breathing space, and perfectly set the stage for him to get to 200 without hiccups. In the process, also knowing Sachin won't be able to get wild, Dhoni took the burden on his shoulders to smash the bowling and get the score past 400. I thought that Dhoni bit was quite special. One doesn't expect such things from an Indian captain after Gavaskar - but one can expect it from Dhoni. :isalute:

I was a bit worried when Dhoni started hitting in the last over. I was on cricinfo refreshing again and again only to see Sachin sitting on 199. But I am sure Dhoni was only helping. His innings must have allowed Sachin to relax and score at a comfortable pace.

I was a bit worried in the 49th over when he denied strike to Tendulkar, but was scoring those 4s and 6s instead. Later in the 50th over, he refused the 2nd run to give Sachin strike. I was :adore:ing him then.

I think Tendulkar was totally drained out around 45th over. Good that Dhoni stepped up in a big way. Too close to comfort though!

You could see him punching his back and what not to help him keep going. I was really really surprised that he was able to carry the bat despite cramping. SRT never believed in getting a runner so it was either hit out or get out type of cricket at the end of Indian innings.

It all happened when he went for a tight second run. That is when his cramping started. He was just toying with bowlers at that time.

its unbelievable batting.. cuz when sachin broke Anwar's record which was 195... the team score was 343..and it was 46th over.. and it took 4 more overs for sachin to get those remaining 5 runs.. though i was very livid with Dhoni for not giving the strike to sachin.. if i see the scorecard.. its some brutal hitting.. but i never focussed on that part during the game.. i was not interested at all in wat dhoni was doing.. my only focus at tht time was goddy..

I don't think anyone could see past God in that moment. Even I was on the verge of calling Dhoni names for the very first time (glad I didn't lose that hymen). If we sitting here could feel the enormity of the moment, how much should Dhoni have been feeling it being so damn close to the action and the Man? And of course, we don't entirely know what happens on the pitch. Now we know, that Sachin Himself had wanted Dhoni to farm most of the strike, because he was tired. Which is why Dhoni is Dhoni and we are mere mortals.

Perfect example was when Sachin refused another run in the second last ball of the innings...Goddy was too tired :(
