Irfan is the only decent fielder in our team. Yea he dropped one catch in the IPL. But have you seen tne lazy ass Nehra ( who never catches, who never stops the ball), Ishant (who misses the stumps even from 2 inches :cantstop:), Praveen (One of the worst fielder India has ever produced), Zaheer (never a good fielder. But a good bowler). None of our fielders are any good. Lot of teams depend on such bowlers. Mascarenhas, Oram they are all medium pacers like Pathan. But if you need 20 runs in 15 balls or something they will come more than handy. Do you really think Indian team's strength is bowling and they win matches coz of bowling?

Let's get this right. 29 people who voted NO think that a certain Uthappa, Pandey or Irfan instead of their replacements would decisively change the fortunes of our team? Instead of the performance of the nucleus of our team - which remains unchanged? Delusions :cantstop:

Our nucleus is very unstable now. Out of form, injury, fatigue will all contribute to another insipid performance. But these guys are in better T20 form. Even one person can singlehandedly change the game in T20. So 3 means it is a lot.

Yea, depth in batting is what he would have provided + fielding. Nehra would prolly bowl 1st change then MSD would have to find a place in the field to hide him, batting toh unki subhanallah!

Irfan can bat and can also bowl in the middle overs frugally with MS standing up to the stumps.So he would have been a very good option, also he is a very capable and a very well organized batsman, can handle pressure situations, bats anywhere ranging from opening to no.8, so it provides flexibility in the batting line up and is also a decent striker of the cricket ball, he was a must in T20s.Dont know why did they not select him

He is not even that consistently. He can easily go for a 20 run over just like anybody else.

That can happen to any one.Come on now, he has done well for us in the death overs many times.Even the best in the business can go for 20, you never know.So saying that will be a bit harsh on Nehra who is good at only one thing :cantstop:

Please! The core of our team is very settled and in-form as well. Even the replacement, Rohit Sharma, is in decent form. People here are whinging as if there's such a huge gap in skills level of Uthappa etc and Sharma. If we do badly it'll be purely because Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvi, Raina, Dhoni, Zaheer, Praveen, Yusuf and Bhajji would have sucked collectively. Certainly not because Vinay Kumar instead of Pathan would be warming the bench. :cantstop:

This is the way I see it. The IPL is an Indian domestic T20 competition, guys here are proving their worth and fighting for a place I guess in the national T20 side. If the guys performing don't get picked, what really is the point of this competition? Rohit Sharma is in decent form, thats all. Uthappa on the other hand looks in sublime touch.

Fact is atleast 4 batsmen in our line up can be bounced out. We all saw how they were dancing around against fast, short pitched stuffs. Uthappa is definitely not a bad player of pull shot compared to Raina or Yusuf. Apart from Dhoni nobody else is consistently good against short stuffs.

Gambhir Veeru Raina Yuvi(sometimes) Rohit Yusuf all of them can be targetted with some short pitch stuff and there are chances of getting them out on these.Only Dhoni plays short pitch stuff well on regular basis.

After looking at YP's performance against DC and the team selected for T20 WC, he looks the most well-oiled T20 match-winner in the squad atm and a lot would depend up on how he shapes up in the tourney (including the ability handle short pitched stuff from 140+ Kmph bowlers)

But to go a step further and assert that because of a couple of marginal calls our chances at the World Cup has been compromised is bordering on delusional and something we associate our neighbours with.

What's marginal depends up on one's perception. For someone like you not picking X or Y could be a marginal call, on the other hand for someone else not picking X could be leaving out a key player from the scheme of things and something that could hurt the balance of the side :winky:

This team failed in 5 of the last 7 T20 games. So you gotta understand there is something wrong with the current team.. Uthappa was part of T20 winning squad in 2007 where he played crucial role in couple of matches. One against Australia and Pakistan. He is currently in good hitting form. Why not use it ?

What's being ignored is 'form', which is the key in T20 X and Y both can be fierce hitters on paper, now X could be in great form but someone selects Y. The discussion is not whether selecting Y over X going to make a difference on paper (as in the end both of them are hitters) but it is are the selectors picking guys who look good and are in form or those who are playing on reputation with a hope of them peaking at the right time
