deathmonger Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Watched a Hindi movie in a theater after quite a while - Shanghai. I think it's over hyped to be honest. It's a decent movie, but certainly not of the quality that it's got reviews. Even without watching it, I am pretty sure Gangs of Wassey pur would be better by a significant margin. The plot of Shanghai is too predictable and Hashmi has done an okay job - nothing like what the reviews describe. Abhay Deol was brilliant in my opinion and his character was the one who kept me engaged in the movie. wasseypur is a lot better.

This film does not do anything neither it touches the nerves of the people on a sensitive issue nor it thrills or entertains. I guess director got confused a bit between these two things and could not deliver any thing in the end. Abhay Deol was good though.

It wasnt just the plot that was good.I sensed the climax too.it was the acting of Anupam n Naseeruddin n good direction that was awesome

Well, I found more positive reviews than otherwise. But I figured out why - it was supposed to be a taken home assignment (and Indian cine-goers suck at it - at least I do). You are supposed to take mental notes, go back, do a bit of research, and if required - make second visit to validate your understandings - if not yet satisfied, iterate again. And in the process, you might have to watch (at least a primer on) Alien series too. (Alien DVDs sales seems to have picked up a bit, after/around Prometheus release) There are post-inception kind of postmortems all over the web.
